Their lunch is much better than breakfast. We've been to Giovanni's twice now, the first time for lunch and the second for breakfast. We had some fantastic sandwiches for lunch that were flavorful and we were super happy with.
Breakfast… not so much. We were there 2 hrs after they opened and the Deli was empty with at least 3-4 staff there, but still it took nearly half an hour to get our omelettes. When they arrived they were completely unseasoned and bland – just what I'd get if I attempted to make my own omelette. If I'm going out to eat breakfast, I expect a little better – perhaps the use of rosemary, pepper, herbs & etc rather than nondescript eggs that were cooked unceremoniously with veggies. And still, this took nearly 30 mins in an empty deli.
We will not make the drive to come back for breakfast again, but might for lunch.
This place has some really good sandwiches/wraps. I agree you must have the #57 and make sure you eat it right away, nice and warm… YUM – you wont regret it. I've also eaten their chicken mozz and pepper wraps- also good… Small parking lot in back.
I would order ahead of time if you are coming just to pick up food so that way you can go in and out quickly.
Friendly workers!
it is one of those high school hangout places.
The person who took our order was nice, food was nice and hot. Good prices.
Just to edit as this review was kinda small: I got the 57 (in a wrap) and the other person got a multi-vegetable wrap.

Very nice deli. I got a number 8 grilled chicken salad. It was massive and had 2 big pieces of chicken on it. Along with chicken it had pieces of mutz, sundried tomato, regular sliced tomato and topped with balsamic dressing. The romaine lettuce was fresh and crunchy. Next time I need to try a sandwich because they looked very good.
I grew up in Fair Lawn, so I've always known Gio's to be the go-to during the lunch rush in high school, that first place you had to stop in when you were home from a college break, and the deli you went to on Saturdays after you had started working (because unless you work nearby, you can't get in during the week due to the hours).
A lot of locals, myself included, sometimes blame the change to a much larger location for the slump in quality. To be honest, not many people notice because they don't go on a weekly basis like we used to. Whatever the reason, unfortunately, they aren't what they used to be. I still go once in a while and have a good experience but, on multiple occasions I've been with people who weren't happy with their meal and even their catering experience.
Their vodka sauce, rice balls and tort salad are still great, as is my personal favorite #28 (grilled chicken, mozzarella, roasted peppers w/ a side of vodka sauce for dunking). A lot of people love their buffalo chicken (#68 I believe), and even though its hit or miss, the #57 any which way is always a classic.
Parking is a pain, but if you're familiar with the area you can find a spot across banta pl. in the little strip mall or a side street across.
Lastly, the family that owns and still runs Gio's is great. They have been through so much, especially with the loss of their father, but have always been able to stay in high spirits. They are always willing to participate in local high school fundraisers and help the community, which is hard to come by sometimes.
In my eyes, this Gio's will always be a town staple and I'll always have a soft spot for it.
Best catering and sandwiches in Fair Lawn. We catered our sons 1st birthday party from Giovanni's for 100 people and it was amazing. Everyone asked who the caterer was. The food was excellent and hot.
The price was perfect and within budget of $12 per person for buffet style food.
Would highly recommend to anyone looking to cater in an event.
How has this place not been on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives yet? Seriously, Guy Fieri needs to look at the list for most popular deli in North Jersey and get his ass in there to find out why. I truly believe he would be impressed by their three most appealing things (their tortellini, fresh homemade mozzarella, and their vodka sauce). Mix those things with a variety of their wraps and sandwiches and there is a good chance you will bleed Gio's vodka sauce for the rest of your life.
#57 wraps (breaded chicken cutlet, w/ fresh mozz and vodka sauce for you newbies), quarts of tortellini, and buff chicken wraps w/ mozz float around my dreams up in Boston as I am unable to enjoy my daily sandwiches up there.
However, it is always a treat to come home and make Gio's my first stop upon entering Fair Lawn even before going to see mom and dad. They can wait, I have to get my tortellini fix first.
Anyway, enough with my rambling. Luckily, today I left Boston, and made my pilgrimage home just in time to catch them before closing. I checked out the new location today and it is massive. More tables, better parking, a coffee corner, updated ordering system, nook to watch them make mozzarella, and the same studs working behind the counter. I made my own wrap with grilled chicken, mozzarella, eggplant, artichokes, roasted red peppers, and balsamic. That needs to be on the menu immediately.
Oh and in case you were wondering I put in my order for 4 quarts of tortellini to grab tomorrow to bring back to Boston. My friends up there are officially addicted.
