Service was great here, the waiter was patient, nice, and accommodating to any changes/substitutes we wanted. But the food was alright. I ordered the salmon benedict and the salmon was a little too smoke and the cheese used had a distinct flavor that didn't go with the salmon, but I got sweet potato fries instead of home fries and those were good.
On another trip out to Long Island to visit my family, we came to this diner. They are very fond of it and I became a fan as well. The decor is more upscale and modern that your typical retro diner, but all the tasty diner favorites are there. Our waitress, Aphrodite, as a real sweetheart, calling us all "Hon" and checking in on us many times. I had the burger deluxe, and got fancy and ordered waffle fries, and I also had a bloody mary because why not, I wasn't driving. The food came out fast and tasted great–I don't anyone was disappointed with their meal. My burger was huge and cooked well. I enjoy a good solid diner, and the Port Washington Diner gets my vote.
Have had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Everything tasted great. Service is on par with other diners. What separates it from a other couple of diners in Port is the atmosphere and cleanliness. A lot cleaner than the others but a little pricier. My go to diner in Port.
This has become my late night haunt when I crave a little greasy something. The decor is bright and inviting and the entire staff is super friendly and accommodating.
My faves here are the Matzoh ball soup, they actually use schmaltz in the balls! Their tuna melt is phenomenal and I've actually enjoyed, a diner staple btw, their chicken parmigiana. They also make some delicious chocolate or vanilla egg cream too. Their ingredients seem fresh and the menu run the gamut of traditional breakfast faves to Greek/Italian staples to the usual diner fare of disco fries. They aren't adverse to making exceptions or special requests when asked either.
It's a very casual neighborhood spot with lots of locals who come and are greeted by first name and hugs.
I'm from Brooklyn, but just had a reading with the incredible psychic medium Jeffrey Wands. My sister and I wanted to get a bite to eat and he recommended the Port Washington Diner.
It was around 6ish and although the diner was crowded, we were able to sit right away (when we left, there were people waiting). The diner itself is big and decorated pretty. I had matzo ball soup for the first time EVER in my whole life….and it was so delicious that I asked for another order to take home for lunch the next day. I also had a salad with beets/goat cheese/asparagus with a dijon vinaigrette. The candied walnuts on top were amazing.
My sister ordered the turkey club—pretty good (but how can you mess up a turkey club really). So all in all we were satisfied and I am dreaming about that matzo ball soup right now!!!
Pretty good deals here-I got an eggs benedict that came with a plate of home fries (you could ask for it to be extra crispy!), coffee/tea and orange juice for just $12. You can also add a Blood Mary/Screwdriver/Mimosa for just $2 more. What a deal!
The food was just ok though, but this place also looks better than your standard diner.
This is my go-to spot for breakfast on the weekends.
On Sunday's they have brunch specials that include fresh-squeezed orange juice (usually $4+ per glass) and coffee/tea. Definitely try the eggs benedict florentine. It's delicious, especially if you're not a huge fan of Canadian bacon, or bacon in general. The best part? The spinach has feta cheese in it, which makes it salty and creamy and just very good.
Some tips:
-Get the Florentine Benedict on weekends.
-Try their fresh fish (in particular, the lemon sole)
-If you get the Reuben, ask for it extra lean.
-Stay away from the Pastrami sandwich… trust me.
-Skip their carrot cake- my favorite dessert, but the worst I have ever had.
The busboy staff at this diner is the best I have ever seen at any restaurant in my life. Extremely professional, well-spoken, polite and just fantastic. I often wonder why some waiters and waitresses have the position they have while the busboys' aren't promoted, and quite frankly, swapped for some of the wait staff.
Overall, one of the best diners in the LI/NYC area.
Before the diner was under new management, it used to be just a typical diner…but now, it's more of an actual restaurant. The owner puts thought in every dish and combines unique flavors and styles with each item on the menu.
It's more than just a diner!
