Meh.
The food's decent, but not decent enough for me to walk past a multitude of food options that a much closer to the Rutgers-Newark campus. It's just basic cafe fare so it is what it is.
My tune might change when I have the opportunity to try their breakfasts. The prices for breakfast are cheap, let's hope the portions are good.
I used to purchase breakfast from this cafe given I work nearby. There's not much of a complaint in that area however, their lunches are horrible.
This may be a biased opinion because I'm used to food in NYC – compared to that, I was not at all impressed. Eating here forced me to make my breakfast and lunch everyday.
Wow Matt E. I guess sheltered life in CA is the way to be, sadly this is a cafe review…not a bash on Newark, last I chekced.
Broad St Cafe is actually located in one of the SAFEST and nicer areas in Newark. I've worked here nearly 5 years (so a little more rapor than 3 wks) and it's nice to walk over to such a friendly counter to get a great lunch. My favorite thing to get here is the Cajun Blackened Chicken Salad. It has these little bits of fried carrot strips and sweet, light dressing that pairs perfectly with a bed of greens.
Now if you're not watching your calories as much, I suggest you get one of their burgers, and true to NJ diner culture it will be cooked to perfection and served with a massive amount of fries!

The only warning I give to lunch go-ers is don't wait until 1 pm to order, delivery takes foreverrr at this time and even if you're picking up – order ahead. Otherwise, delivery guys are super nice and so are the staff from the place itself.
