Here for breakfast, this well-staffed diner should have no issue with service. That being said, here's what I noticed:
Like most people, I have a list of complex instructions just to prepare a simple eggs and bacon breakfast. I ran through mine and the lovely young pleasant waitress says, "you said scrambled?" [thought I was in trouble]
Two other customers sat down after I ordered, on either side of me and were taken care of by the more "veteran" waitress. Surprise? They were both served quickly before me. [figured I was in trouble]
I was brought my food shortly thereafter and the young lady looked at me and asked quizzically "is everything alright?" Now she was polite, but the look told me that she gets frequent complaints. I'll get to mine, but I don't send food back or complain to servers except in extreme circumstances. [knew I was in trouble]
The food:
My toast was almost bread, barely a tan and cold. I needed to take two nearby napkins to blot my bacon that looked as if it came right out of the frying pan. Eggs were dry and tasteless; why is it so hard to make scrambled eggs? And the potatoes, which I ordered "well done," were soggy, but at least they had onions in them.
All in all, big trouble!
Let's start off with the highlight: gelato. If you're coming here, you're getting the gelato. The gelato bar is set up by the host and offers a variety of awesome flavors. It's honestly really good.
Golden Reef diner is pretty nice. It's a huge diner with a lot of friendly staff. Like most diners, you can get anything you want, but the menu is not overwhelming. I've been here a few times and the portions are always big.
The food quality is above average but not amazing. I thought it was weird that my gyro was just plain meat and pita with yogurt sauce on the side (no tomatoes or onions). You'll spend more here than you would at other diners but I think the amount of food you get covers the difference.
Next time I come here, I want to try the pancakes- the flavor selections looked interesting.
Lastly, remember you're in Rockville Centre and parking is terrible. It's no different here.
I only came here for some gelato but it was the best gelato I've ever had. I got half pistachio/half stracciatella and received a large portion for $5.30. Would definitely recommend to any gelato lovers. Looking forward to coming back and trying the food.
I had no idea they had delicious gelato here!!! On our way back from nj my friend mentioned the best gelato being here. Of course there was no question we all had to come here right away so we did lol. So good I can't wait to come back for more flavors. Amazing.
Although none of us had it, the highlight is apparently the gelato. My friend who had been to this diner before was raving about it; if it wasn't 2am, we might have gotten some, but went for breakfast foods instead.
It was clean and a little funky. All of our plates were different styles and our waitress had quite the sense of humor. Everyone enjoyed their food – drunk or not! We had a variety of eggs: omelette, scrambled, on a roll with bacon and cheese. All were enjoyed. I'm sure we'll be coming back to this diner after another fun night out in RVC! It's nice that they were open at such a late/early hour and it wasn't crowded, but wasn't empty either.
Here's the place to go after a late night of summer festivities.I was in Island park looking for a place to eat around 1:00 AM . All the diners in Island park closed at 10 pm boo ..boo! So grateful for Yelp that I discovered that this Diner was open until very late. Our waiter was super duper friendly and provided us with great service. I got chocolate chip whole wheat pancake stacks, eggs, and turkey sausage. You cannot beat all of that food for $14. The girls and I were on a mission for pancakes and we were so happy to finally get them. My friend loved her turkey burger and onion rings. When ever in the area I would definitely return.
This diner is excellent had salmon with spinach and avocado and quinoa. Delicious!!!! Service was good too! Their prices are fair considering the large portions!
This place is pretty good for any meal and those late night meals after a night out in rvc.
My husband and I come here for take out breakfast and they always have everything ready within 10 to 16 minutes of calling and they always have the order correct.
The food is tasty and the staff is friendly. Love this neighborhood diner.
