  1. Okay, so it is really a store front restaurant on Broad Street in Westfield, NJ. It qualifies as a diner in my mind – daily specials on a board by the door, breakfast served anytime, hot meat loaf sandwiches and waitresses who call you "hon".

In addition, it is within walking distance of Trader Joes (my real reason for being in Westfield tonight – Charles Shaw Merlot for $2.99!).

I had the Patty Melt with a cup of chili, fries, creamy cole slaw and all the diet pepsi I could handle for $11.50. Open 7 days a week and worth the detour off of the Parkway if traffic gets heavy. This is my second time there and they really seem to have a following of regulars.

  2. I'm sorry to hear that some people have gotten horrible service here and I think it can really be a major factor even if the food is great.  But anyhow, do you remember those old school diners where there's a massive menu and everything's got pretty good prices and lots of food?  This is it.

Vicki's Diner is one great reason to visit Westfield, NJ!

  3. I have been to this diner several times, it is such an old-fashioned, good-feeling, chilling out place.  The service is fast, not the friendliest server, but works super fast.

The food is nothing extra special but is very comforting. I love their waffle, I don't know why but it taste so awesome! Their burgers are pretty big and nice too.

The owner is always around, checking on tables, chatting with customers, welcoming everyone, which is really sweet.

Be aware: it is CASH ONLY – there are few places to get cash from ATM.
The first time I went, I didn't know this, and realized AFTER I already ate my lunch…and I didn't have Debit card either (only credit card). They were so sweet to me, and told me to just bring the money sometimes that week, or mail to to them if I can't go back there. They didn't make me feel bad at all, and of course, it made me want to go back again and again!

  4. It's just a diner.

The place is clean.  The waitress did a good job, but looked miserable while doing it.

They had a few healthier options on the specials menu.  My tuna sandwich with beet salad wasn't anything special… Canned beets in some vinegar.  I could make better at home. There were hardly any clams in the clam chowder.  Everything else was very plain.

A better bet might be an omelet.

  5. I gave this place a couple of tries but I'm pretty confident I'm done. The food is consistently bad and the servers are usually crabby. I once ordered eggs Benedict that came out without any hollandaise sauce. I asked the server if I could have it and she said "oh, you wanted that?" Um yes, that's what makes them eggs Benedict. The "waiting area" is awful. In the nice weather you can wait outside but in the winter or rain, everyone just crowds in the doorway which makes it hard for people coming or going, and annoying to the patrons eating because everyone is hovering over them.
I'm assuming this place stays busy because it's been around forever and it's affordable for families.

  6. I first found this place when I was shopping at the local Trader Joe's.  Westfield is a beautiful little town with many nice store fronts, but Vicki's stood out with its polished silver front and bright sign.  The interior continues this visual thread, with silver and red everywhere giving the feel of an old diner (or train car).  The walls are lined with photos of the area from the early 1900's, which add to the family feel texture of this diner.  They even have complimentary Dum Dum lollipops at the cashier – how cute is that?!

The food is fantastic.  Fairly priced with large portions.  I've been to many diners that claim to have a "3 egg omelet" but Vicki's is the only place I've been in the area that actually delivers.  Their home fries are cooked perfectly, with a nice crisp exterior (you'd be amazed how many places don't get this right).  Their wraps are delicious as well, with nice warm and soft wraps around nicely cooked meats.  For the health conscious, they have salads so big I can't even finish them in one sitting.  Try the turkey burger salad for a fresh salad with tons of protein via the burger and cottage cheese.

I love Vicki's and visit often.  The service is awesome and they're always friendly.  Recommended!
