  1. It is a diner and though from the outside you get all excited thinking you will have that same kind of service and vibe of old school diners, you don't.
I got heart burn afterwards, which means either there were too many packaged preservative laden ingredients in y omelette or something else unexplained.
Not inexpensive, not the best service, not the best food. I mean it was like, fast, cheap and good were not even any of the options available here.
Veni, Vidi, Verti in this case not to return.

  2. Since this diner is walking distance from my home, we've decided to give the place a try.

OK…we gave it a try and there's nothing special about it. The food was decent but the portions weren't generous but just enough.

I've been to better diners and this one is a place to go to if you're hungry and don't feel like driving.

  3. Do something about your parking lot; Horrendous. This place is like asking for scratches, dents and/or a fender bender for your car. Also, the food is extremely oily. Ironically, the oiliness is more suited for cars (instead of consumption) than the diner's actual parking lot.

  4. Sadly lacking as a diner in NY, mainly because of the owner/manager.

I kid you not, the owner played some horrible music from his phone by the cash register where he camped out and made disparaging remarks to his employees, right in front of customers (like me).  It was so horribly distracting and rude, and the music totally clashed with the diner (where people go to have a nice quiet meal).  The older people next to me were much more upset than I was too, as the "ethnic music" was more appropriate for a Middle Eastern restaurant versus a mainstream diner.  And it was from his cellphone too, so it was horrible quality in the sound, not even from speakers.

The waiters were quick and fast like any good diner, and the short order cooks can crank out breakfast at night as fast as they can in the morning and it tastes great.  They have potential, but need new management that understand the industry they are in.

  5. When I entered, I felt like I was coming in through a back door! All of the mirrors & reflective surfaces were making me dizzy. I opted for a Belgian waffle. I thought it was over priced, but I am from the Mid West!

I don't think I would go back. It was like a bad time warp for me.

  6. New hire at a local hospital so I ventured out to check the area for lunch spots. Happy to find a nearby diner.

Came in here and at first glance noticed the average age of the patrons were 80 years and above (no exaggeration and definitely no hate towards the older adult population). But to me that can only mean one thing: the food will probably taste very bland.

I was right. I ordered a Ruben sandwich (pastrami, swiss cheese, saurkraut, usually in a panini form) with onion rings on the side to go. While waiting, I enjoyed a light convo with the waiter who was extremely nice.

Meal took about 10 to 15 mins and what I received was exactly those elements of a sandwich except on a toasted rye bread, not grilled. So the whole thing was soggy, greasy, seeping through the bread. Thank goodness he included fork and knife in the bag and a multitude of napkins. It was also very bland as predicted and before I left the diner, I noticed the thousand island dressing wasn't added on the sandwich which is always a staple in the Ruben everywhere else. So I got my dressing on the side and relied heavily on it for taste.

After eating half of the meal I couldn't stomach much more of the greasy debacle and threw it out. Sad to waste $13 for a subpar meal and even ripped off, I'm still willing to come back. Maybe I can give the spot another chance and order something different, especially since the staff were pleasant and efficient.

  7. When rating diners, you have to keep in mind that they should only have to get a couple of things right: good service, plump sausage links, pre-buttered toast (if desired), and a decent burger. I like to add a bonus star if their corned beef hash is to my liking. This is one of those diners.

Having dined at Skyline a few times, I can say that the service is always friendly and speedy. I can't speak to how their burgers are because I can't get away from ordering the corned beef hash. If it were up to me, I'd substitute the homefries for more hash, but that's not an option. So what makes their CBH so damn good?

Crunch. I'm almost certain that they don't use canned corned beef. That might sound like a low standard (and it is, admittedly), but you'd be hard-pressed to find a diner in the area that doesn't serve mushy CBH from a can. You just can't get canned corned beef to go through the Maillard reaction properly. It's been sitting in its preservative juices for way too long. Sound appetizing?

Anyway, give it a shot and try CBH at most other diners. You'll see what I mean, and maybe you'll come to appreciate this seemingly average diner a little bit more!

  8. It seems hard to find a great diner these days…And Skyline is not great but it is good…service is adequete, food is very quick out of the kitchen and the place is clean.
We ordered breakfast and lunch…I had poached eggs on buttered whole wheat bread with burnt home fries and great sausage and Bonnie G. had a Chicken Salad with Greek Salad lunch special. Both were prepared nicely and worth the price point.
From the outside, the front looks dumpy with the peak over the front door all plywood…like something is being constructed or the place is just falling apart.
Yes, I am a fan because its better than most other LI diners…last week went to Westbury diner which was not a good experience…This is not on a par with Broadway diner in Hicksville which is the standard for Long Island.
