By far my favorite NJ diner. Always packed, but the best place to go after waking the loop at Ramapo. The waitstaff is friendly, the decor is colorful and entertaining. The food is fresh and all homemade. The turkey platter is one of my favorites with the roasted turkey made in house. The pumpkin pie is the best I've had in a long time. I wish it was closer, if be there every week!!!
They make the best cheese Danishes I've ever had! Breakfast was also great – had an omelet and home fries and everything was so fresh and delicious.
Came here on NYD with 2 others. Place was busy but still enough seating with no wait. They have the usual diner menu with breakfast, sandwiches and special entrees. Ordered the cuban sandwich. Our food came out lightning quick and everyone loved their meals. I definitely recommend the jersey fries as an app or with your meal for an extra $2. Cheese is melted on top of the fries with gravy, very delicious. Was too stuffed for dessert but did notice they have lots to choose from: cakes, oversized cookies and muffins and a lot more. If you're in the area, its a good spot for a meal.
Great Cuban sandwich with heaps of fresh pork. I didn't expect much from this joint but I was proved wrong!
Was out visiting family in NJ this past weekend and one of the spots we went to for dinner was The Oakland Diner. I was glad that this was an option because it was such a positive experience.
As a photographer I should point out that the place is very well decorated and around the whole building is assorted food paintings. This looks fantastic from afar and keeps them from looking boring. Of course the food is what will sell me in the end but this had a rocking vibe to it and I made sure to snap some photos of the spot.
It was slowly clearing out from the first run of lunch crowd people so we got a table in the rear and our server was there immediately with menus and asking for the drink order. This came back just as fast and the ordered options across the family were standards. A patty melt for one, buffalo chicken salad for another and my own "New Orleans Burger" since that piqued my interest the most. I polled the rest of the family as to the quality of their selections and got thumbs up across the board and I note this for larger opinion status. My burger was awesome and had just the right amount of seasoning to the meat and enough of the Bleu Cheese for some additional bite. This came with fries and I used no seasoning or condiments along with it.
While its hard to give a proper Yelp based on only one dish this place was a winner and a recommendation should you be in this part of town and looking for some quality dining options. When I visit them again I will surely suggest we head here if dining out is the larger plan. Nice work Oakland Diner, you've a fan out in Brooklyn for sure.
Definitely one of the best diners around the area. Very quick and friendly service. The food was great too and reasonably priced for the portion size. Typical diner offerings with breakfast available all day long and plenty of desserts and baked goods selections.
In terms of diners, this is one of my favorites! There is a unique charm about this diner from the food to the outrageous decor.
FOOD : The menus is very extensive which is classic of most diners. You can get foods ranging from every breakfast item that you can think of to every sandwich that man has ever created. One unique thing about this menu though is that it includes more food that is "upscale" that is not necessarily present at every diner. Included on the menu are steaks and fish! I, however, chose Fried Chicken and boy was it a platter of fried goodness. The platter came with 4 pieces of chicken and a huge serving of fries. I ended up taking it half of it home.
PRICE : Not super cheap, not super expensive. Reasonable for the serving sizes.
ATMOSPHERE : FUNKY. This place on the outside is decorated with bright colored paintings of random cartoons. The inside looks just as funky with paintings all over the wall. Even if you don't come for the food, come to look at the cool art.
This was a quite an interesting find indeed, upon parking in the parking lot we took a bit to admire the wall painting and the plants. The owners must have sunk quite a number of investment in the diner indeed. Not just outside but inside as well its quite a treat to turn the heads around the restaurant while we're eating. Its a treat not just for the taste but for the eyes as well. Very colorful and beautifully done restaurant that I haven't seen anything else quite like it yet.
The food themselves were pretty good. Quite large portions like most diner plates. Although I feel the sausage was a bit too salty and the toast were unfortunately little burnt. But the hash browns were quite delicious and the french toast is so big its definitely enough for 2 people at least. For the ~$30 we spent on two combo plates is enough to feed 4 people at least so it was a very economical meal indeed.
I read that the desserts here are very highly reviewed as well its too bad we were so full after the early lunch that didn't get to try. Its unfortunate I don't live close enough to become a regular patron but this place definitely deserves the good reviews its been getting on Yelp.
Service was great the staff were very attentive usually multiple people come help us out and we're not just tied to one server I quite enjoyed the experience dining here. Definitely recommended if you're visiting the Ramapo Valley area during the day, I doubt you'll order something that will be disappointed.
