Waiting in line across the street at the 69th Regiment Armory for the Wine Riot last night I was starving and needed some food in my empty belly before downing a lot of unlimited vino samples. This is a small location. Counter staff was friendly. Place seemed clean. Got me a foot long oven roasted chicken sandwich that I wolfed down when I got back on line. It still didn't help. I got really wine drunk. At least it was cheap as September is $5 footlong month. Can't ask for too much more as it's a Subway.
I'm a Subway fan but I wish this location wasn't so quaint, especially just feet away from a college campus. Though I've never taken advantage of the "student discount," I like that I have the option to cash in sooner or later. My order was fulfilled pretty quickly. No wait time.
It's hard to rate a chain restaurant such as Subways. It's the same old sub you find every 5 blocks Manhattan, definitely affordable, decent priced fast foods sub. Everything aforementioned deserve a star alone. The service at this particular location is what drove me off the roof. The mister and I were there late last Summer and we were the only ones at the restaurant at the time. We were greeted by a Black gentleman behind the counter and my boyfriend began ordering our regular: Black Forest ham on honey wheat footlong. The guy seemed short of hearing and I had to interrupt my boyfriend and scream our order to him despite my boyfriend already repeating it twice (I did mention we were the only ones there, along with the guy behind the counter, no background noise whatsoever). Guy popped the sandwich in the oven and proceed to start a friendly short talk with us, which I find really friendly had it not been for the context of his conversation. Guy (to my boyfriend): weren't you just here this morning sir? Boyfriend: nope, my first time here in several years actually Guy: I could've sworn it was you. Me (walked away from conv to put our stuff down on a table) The mister supposedly whispered to the guy that it was inappropriate to assume that all Asians look alike, and that not everyone's going to take these comments lightly. Guy: (apologetically nodded) look man, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that. *pops the sandwich out the oven* And with his thick accent he asked what toppings and cheese we wanted, while taking his time, and not forgetting his short chatters, began asking us why "your people" like ordering hams so much and both our ethnicities. **this was the moment when I told myself I had to be excused from this negative energy right now. My boyfriend snapped, and had him just speed up and cut with the chit chats.
In light of this experience here, I'm just going to say that this review reflects my visit at this particular subway location at that time. I have yet to be back to see how their other staffs work or handle customers, but I did find this very very repulsive. We could tell that the young man was trying to be friendly, but there's a time and place for everything. The sandwich took 5 minutes to make versus other locations which take a minute at most. The conversation topics are just highly inappropriate, especially the way he worded everything. I really don't want to be so harsh on the guy but his thick accent suggest that he might not be too familiar with the New Yorker's way of getting things done. This purpose of my review is for the management to learn from my experience here, and properly train new staff members in terms of conduct and public relations. If the guy was new, judging from his speed, we think it's very likely, he should've been supervised by another more experienced staff member along side, which we did not see.

Still woke up wine drunk and hungover. Ugh.
