  1. Close to Madison Square Park but nicely tucked away on Broadway with seating options both near the fully opened outside or towards the back fully enclosed.  This restaurant is hoppin' during lunch time! We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated.  I don't think I've ever seen a sit down restaurant that busy during lunch hour, that's when you know it must be good.

My friend and I split everything so we got to try more food without emptying our wallets or needing a cart to be wheeled out.
    * Sweet Potato Rings – amazing!  I've never seen anything like it before but they were perfectly crispy and delicious.
    * Mac and cheese – gooey, cheesy, heavenly.  This portion  was really large and even sharing with another person we had enough to split again for left overs.
    * Grilled chicken sandwich – not just any chicken sandwich, this had flavor and the chicken wasn't dry.

Service was awesome!  Being that we only had an hour for lunch, a 15 minute walk there and back and we had to wait 10 minutes to sit… we ordered right away and the food took no more than 15 minutes. [Yes, of course we were a little bit late back to lunch for all of you math people]  Our waitress was very on the ball during such a busy time.

    Food, out of 10? 50.
    Service, out of 10? 50.

I would love to come back and sit closer to the street part of the restaurant where it's wide open and you can enjoy the sunshine!  Until next time… 🙂

  2. Really disappointed in the food here. Everything sounds great in the menu but the flavor just isn't' there. The food lacks seasoning and that little something that makes you want to keep eating.

-Mac and cheese was actually pretty good and cheesy. Best thing we had

-the potato chips with blue cheese could have used more cheese. The fondu tastes less like cheese and more like a béchamel.

    -the burger was just ok

-the pot pie seemed to only have big chunk in bacon in it. I never complain about bacon but it overwhelmed everything thing else. The crust wasn't biscuit dough.

I will not be going back

  3. We came here because I suddenly had the mood for a classic American burger. The prime beef burger is sold out so we got a regular one. The food didn't  disappoint me at all. The only part I'm not quite happy is the 'pretty' waitress didn't bother make any eye contact and explain the menu to me which I never had the same experience in any other restaurant. Kinda like how packed the restaurant is which make you feel you picked a trendy spot anyway. Maybe will come back.

  4. My wife and I are repeat customers to The Smith as we were very impressed during our first try.  On Saturday nights, their special dish is the paella, and it's quite tasty for a restaurant that has no particular specialty.  The salmon tartar appetizer is an A+.  It's a nice balance of savory and spicy.  For drinks, I tend to stick with beer (Other Half on tap, nice choice!) biut I was able to try my wife's Cucumber Loco, which was absolutely delicious.  The atmosphere can get loud, but I kind of like that about this place. In this location, they know that alot of customers are there to grab a quick dinner before they go to a show at Lincoln Center or the Beacon Theater, and the staff gets you and and out without feeling rushed.

  5. I attended Saturday brunch for a big group celebration.  I had high hopes for this place, as it was really busy, so I figured it must be really good.  Even though the interior reminded me of a large, chain family type restaurant, it still had a slight hipness about it.  Or maybe it's just what I wanted it to have since it really did remind me of a big and loud cafeteria type restaurant.  Either way, it wasn't exactly inviting.

My husband and I sat down and ordered drinks about 25 minutes after the rest of the group had already gotten there with drinks and appetizers on the table.  The waiter came back less than 5 minutes after we sat down asking for our food order, and we asked him if he could please start on the other side of the table since we had just gotten there and needed a few minutes to look over the menu.  Well, he decided to stand over us and wait for us to order our food.  All of this time, I am wondering why he couldn't just go and get the drinks we had ordered.

15 minutes later, we receive our drinks and my white wine comes out in a small glass with no stem.  What restaurant manager would allow a stemless glass of WHITE wine served?  The stem is there so that the hands won't warm the wine while in the glass.  But, that's the wine specialist in me, so I will move on.

I receive my Maine Lobster Salad that I ordered and it was tasteless.  There was no good flavor to the salad, even though the concept was amazing.  Perhaps a little salt in the dressing could have made this salad really flavorful, but perhaps the Chef forgot to add seasoning.
I had a bite of the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and the bread was so hard that as I bit into it, all of the chicken came flopping out of the sandwich.  The French Fries were ok, not great.
The Mac and Cheese was the best thing I enjoyed out of all of the food.

The problem that I have with my experience here is that the waiter decided to bring out one bill for the entire table to split.  We got to the brunch late and the waiter knew people were already at least one drink ahead of us and appetizers had already been ordered and eaten.  We had to split the bill and ended up paying $60 more than what we should have had to pay all because the waiter decided to bring one bill out and not give us the opportunity to have our own check.  I don't go out to eat to pay for other people's drinks and food unless that's what I'm planning to do.  Had I known we were only going to get one bill, I would have ordered a steak and multiple drinks as some of the people at the table did.

2 stars for food, 0 stars for service!

  6. Great 'catch-all' place in Flatiron – good beer, good wine, good cocktails (especially loved that the bartender could concoct a Bee's Knees on the fly), and what seemed like good food, though I only had the shishito peppers because I'm a fiend. Super, SUPER spacious, really cute, and fairly speedy, friendly service. I'll be back!

  7. stop me if you think that you've heard this one before.

    AMBIANCE
A striking, immaculate, modern American place with … we like sitting at bars, and this bar was incredible: pristine, huge, and fully stocked, with many small batch spirits, while keeping a diner feel. Other options include the tables near the wide open doors for people watching or booths in the back for a more private experience.  Playlist was a little on the Brit Pop and early 80s stuff like Blur, Television, Talking Heads.  No Smiths??  Go figure.

    BATHROOM
The stylistic underground washroom with deep sinks has a vintage barbershop feel, with unisex sinks outside the stalls, and a photo booth!  Practice your photos!  I'd go with the the kindergarten basics (sad, mad, open mouth excited), romantic (kissing, cheek to cheek) or the new standards (duckface, blue steel), but not the eyes-half-shut, blurry hand pointing at the camera, out of frame, "when is it gonna take the picture?" face

    SERVICE
    Superb.

    FOOD
None of the fancy schmancy breakfast options appealed to me (my wife loved her gut-busting avocado toast w poached eggs), but they had no problem giving me a burger at 11am.  OMG. The burger is a double-decker with thin patties, reminiscent of a Bob's Big Boy Classic with shredded lettuce and secret sauce, as big as a burger could be without unmanageable, and as sloppy as can be without needing a roll of Bounty.  Perfect.  And it came with the hugest piles of crisp fries, so large that I couldn't finish them (at least, not in front of my wife, who passive-agressively watches TLC stuff like "Fat Chance" and "MY 600 Lb. Head" in my presence). Anyway, I jokingly told the server, "There must be some mistake- I wanted the large fries" and he actually told me he would get more, almost insisting.

We came back late that night. The wife got a tomato soup that was the best tomato soup I ever had because it didn't taste like tomato soup ( I hate tomato soup).  *Cue Samuel L Jackson* "Say 'tomato soup' one more time."  Anyway, though it was so salty that fat tourists mcould float in it, it tasted more like a bowl of soupy lasagna with the thick bed of chewy cheese, who incidentally was great in "Three Amigos".  I got a delicious ice cream sundae with my own Aladdin lamp full of chocolate syrup to add to my liking.  And by "too my liking" I mean I licked the thing so clean a Vivid Video rep would have hired me on the spot.

For those of you playing "Find the Coachella Bands Playing the Gobi Tent at Noon", the answers were:    UNISEX SINKS      CUE SAMUEL  and  SOUPY LASAGNA

  8. We came here for brunch and it is absolutely perfect and fantastic! The price is a little expensive but it's NYC so what do you expect… right?
I got the Royale Burger cause I figure what the heck, if I wanna pay $20 for something, I'll get something that fills me up for the whole day! So I did!
I enjoyed the burger very much! The bacon in it was perfect, the sauce/ condiment was the right amount, making it not so soggy and hard to eat. I didn't finish the bun (the bun was awesome) it's just too much for me.
The shoestring fries are absolutely perfect and I LOVED it!! Overall I'll definitely recommend this place.
My friends had mimosas and such, and some had grits (I tried them and they are amazing!! I didn't think I would like it! It was my first time eating grits too!)
It was a coincidence that we got to this place, but we were all satisfied with the food! 🙂
They gave out postcards in the bathroom too lol!
