  1. After eating at Tisha's Main Ingredient a few times and having wonderful experiences my wife and I decided to give this sister restaurant a try. The first impression of the dining room was very nice. We were seated at a corner table by the window. Our waitress Meghan greeted us and went over the specials. There were so many great options to choose from it was tough to decide. My wife was not very hungry so she just ordered the soup special and steamed dumplings. I ordered the Roti Wings, crab rolls and the Beef Massamam curry. When asked what spice level I asked for a 4 out of 5. My thought was that they never make a dish spicy as you request but I was mistaken. The spice level was so high that I could not eat my dish. The waitress came over and asked me if everything was okay but I did not want to send my dish back. It was my decision to order it that spicy. To end our meal we shared a dessert. It was the sticky rice with ice cream. It was a perfect way to end my meal. When the check arrived I noticed they took the cost of the curry dish off my check. That was totally unexpected but a very nice gesture. Overall the food and service were wonderful and I plan to come back.

  2. I've only eaten here once, but really enjoyed it. I go gluten free so I usually don't have much choice at a Thai restaurant. This was a nice surprise because they can make almost any dish gluten free. I had the fried rice and it was very good. I did think it was a little bland and I'm not sure if that's because it was gf. Still very tasty though as I tend like milder foods. They have a very nice selection to choose from, so I ll be back to try more.

  3. After years of driving to Montclair to eat at their sister restaurant, Thai Chef, I  am happy to say I have found a new home.  Thai West is every bit as good as Thai Chef and then some.  The atmosphere is relaxing as is the music they play in the background, makes you want a massage before you eat.  Lovely outdoor seating too! And the food, DOUBLE YUM. Whether you choose a Thai Dish or French dish you will not be disappointed. They take classic Thai dishes like Ginger Chicken (Pad King) and make it a bit healthier and modern adding peas, soy beans,  zucchini and greens with the traditional onion, mushrooms and scallions. Must try the Thai steamed ravioli, the sauce really makes this a special treat.  We tried French for Dessert and that was great too, we had the berries and cream, I have never had such amazing blue berries before in my life and  I am NOT a fan of blue berries. Make your reservations now,  this place is going to get popular fast.

  4. Not a bad addition of Thai food to the area. The restaurant is very clean and waiters are very attentive.

I've been here a few times since they opened and for the most part have enjoyed the food. There was one instance that left me rather disappointed. I ordered the grilled salmon, and when I cut into the center of the salmon, it was still ice cold and uncooked. I had notified my waitress of this, and she took my plate back into the kitchen. I joked around with my friends if they thought the kitchen would give me a new piece of if they'll just put that piece of salmon back onto the grill. When I got the salmon back, it was the same old piece of salmon that the kitchen now decided to pan sear to further cook the salmon, and then they re-plated it. Soft opening or what they might want to call it, I find it lazy by the kitchen staff and lacks standards. Not one acknowledgement or apology was made by the staff afterwards.

Some foods my friends and I have enjoyed have been the Chilean sea bass, pad see ew, massaman curry with chicken, chicken in ginger sauce, and grilled squid. We all agreed the chicken satay was not as good as chicken satay we've had from any other Thai restaurant in the past. The price of entrees have a broad range. You can order a noodle dish or chicken curry for $15, while the grilled salmon will run you $26. So for the traditional Thai food on the menu, the prices are on par with neighboring Thai restaurants in the area.

  5. Ordered the duck salad & specifically asked for the duck to be very crispy as that is how I've always had it at Thai restaurants – received hardly any duck in the salad & it was flabby.  The waitress said she told the kitchen to make it crispy but tell her after they made it that their recipe cannot make it crispy- why not let us know upfront instead so that we would have picked something else out & they would not have wasted food?  Atmosphere is lovely & servers are pleasant although there was a lack of a maitre'd or manager walking around – just a bunch of very young servers running around.  Pad Thai was OK – on the sweet side but I do appreciate that they made it at the spice level I requested. I saw many tables getting tasty looking appetizers – next time I think I'd try several of them.
