  1. I can't stop craving their OCTOPUS WRAP. You won't go wrong with this soft, delicious meal. Ugh, hell, I might just order it now for dinner!

  2. We were really disappointed.

Met the siblings here on a weeknight to catch up. The reservation was unnecessary. We were seated near the open kitchen, which I initially thought was pretty cool but was mistaken once I saw the back room. Parts of the restaurant were cool (open kitchen, spiral staircase), while others seemed less thought out.

Service was nice enough but very slow. It took forever for the waitress to take our order. It also took a long time to get the check. To be fair, the kid filling our water glasses never let us down.

The pita was average at best. I've had better at cheap Greek restaurants.

Spanakopita was a huge disappointment. Cohen's is better in your freezer section at the supermarket. It had an odd flavor that I couldn't quite peg, and seemed like it had been reheated from yesterday's batch.

My lamb chop special was WAY overcooked. I ordered rare, and it came between medium-well to well. It had a nice char and crust, but was cooked to death. Because we'd waited so long, I didn't bother sending it back.

The sibs' prawns and calamari were just average. The best choice from our table was the moussaka. The presentation was awkward (came to our table at first with just a scoop of the dish on a plate – and the actual dish was much better once it arrived at the table). However, it had good flavor and everything was cooked nicely. She's got at least 2 more meals as a doggie bag too.

Sides of veggies and potatoes were decent at best. Veggies were stewed and were flavorful, albeit slightly overcooked. The potatoes were soaked in butter, but were cooked properly.

We felt uncomfortable toward the end of the night when it seemed like they wanted to get rid of us.

I'm befuddled by the good reviews – I won't be back. There are far better options around!

  3. This is the third Greek Taverna location – original locations are in Montclair and in Edgewater.  I have only visited the new Glen Rock restaurant which opened this month.  Right across from the Glen Rock train station, so commuters take note.  Upscale.  A little pricey at dinner but moderate at lunch. I tried the bifteki wrap for lunch which was tasty and a a good portion.  Not convenient for me, but I hope to stop back.

  4. I Highly recommend eating here!
I saw it from my seat on NJ Transit and kept meaning to try it. Finally did, and the food was excellent. The service is good. It's clean, great decor, abundance of options, great presentation, and tons of deserts! Not overpriced at all. My family and I plan to become regulars here.

  5. This mini chain of Greek restaurants in the northern NJ suburbs surely make the grade for decent cuisine in pleasant enough digs with attentive service. We have eaten at both the Glen Rock and Montclair locations and while the former has a bar and the latter is without, the latter surely has a more lively atmosphere. The sleepy town of Glen Rock just disappoints for a Saturday night out.

The grilled calamari appetizer and mourousalata are still just as good and the Louvraki filleted table side perfectly seasoned, grilled and presented. The moussaka and chicken entrees were solid and quite large in terms of portion size. The lentil spinach rice side was tasty but the texture was mushy so it leaves a little to be desired. The Horta greens are nothing more than steamed spinach and they were just very average. See my review for Molyvos if you want Horta greens to die for!

The wine by the glass options and cocktails at this location were quite good and the baklava, though we didn't order it, looked superb in the case when you walk in. Overall, this restaurant is just fine for what it is, but it pales in comparison to the Greek seafood specialists like Axia and Varka in Bergen County and cannot measure up to the quality, service or atmosphere you'll find at Molyvos, Milos or Avra in Manhattan. If you manage your expectations, you won't be disappointed.
