Tried these guys today at Madison Park Market, and they had some great stuff. Had the Elotes aka Cuban Corn, and a couple of veggie empanadas. I was surprised the empanadas were fried, but oh well. They were tasty. The corn wasn't as spicy as I get from Boca Chica, but still quite good. Nice stop for the day.
I tried La Sonrisa at the annual Madison Square eats. They're typically a truck that I believe spends a lot of it's time in NJ, something I hope they change very very soon. All they do is empanadas and they're the best damn empanadas you'll ever eat. Though I enjoyed both the beef and pork empanadas the coconut curry chicken empanada was life changing. I kept thinking to myself how good it was while I was eating it. The crust has a slight chew to it with a delicate crispy exterior that's been fried perfectly. It's amazing how it's not even slightly oily. The interior has ultra moist shredded chicken with a balanced mix of cocunut and curry spices. At $3 a pop it's a great value. Bet you can't eat just one.
I tried their empanadas on the High Line in NYC and thought they were OK. The beef one was pretty bland, but the mushroom one was delicious. It tasted like it was cooked in butter with garlic- very Italian. The dough was really odd, the dough on the beef one was almost wonton-like. Strange! Loved the spicy mayo.
