Halal truck has changed a few times since rooted at Spring & Lafayette in front of the gigantic Duane Reade.
the cart looks well-maintained. there's the typical food picture and signage. the cart uses bright LED lights at night…making it look like a gigantic Christmas present. this is a one-man operation. the dude iside basically cooks and assembles your eats via a small grll that has various meats warming, bottles of sauce, stacks of bread and a bin of rice.
the chicken over rice as well as the lamb over rice are very tasty. the meat is cooked perfectly. succulent. spicy. aromatic. seasoned well. a styrofoam container is heaped with rice and a side of veggies…a hill of chicken or lamb is flattened on top and then your food gets drowned in white sauce (yogurty mayo) and/or red sauce (hot) based on what you tell the grill man. you can also get indian biryani here or something close to it. the food here is much less Middle Eastern and more Indian/Pakistani in terms of spice and ingredients…at least it is to me. the seasoning and spicing of chicken and other meats is closer to a curry flavor/smell…though there's no actual curry in any of the meat over rice platters. you can also get falafel, fish fillet sandwiches, hot dogs, and soda. the chicken over rice is $5.50 (and with a soda is $6)…the lamb over rice is $5.99.
the grill man/cook is really nice. doesn't speak a lot but is focused on getting you your food quickly. the narrow sidewalk on Spring doesn't give a lot of waiting room, so i typically just stand to the side of the cart as that sidewalk is pretty busy. the cart seems to be there from lunch to late night…though it could be 24 hours. idk.
this is a late night haven for picking up value eats after a long night of drinking in SoHo. many a nights this food cart has become clutch as opposed to spending $15 on Seamless's thin choice of late night eatery options for delivery. plus you can't beat the price for rice, meat, and a lil bit of lettuce. lol
drops mic because food requires to hands to lean and eat. i out. zzz.
