We get take out here once a week. The lemon chicken soup is exceptional. I also order the gyro platter. Traditional Greek cuisine, family place, slightly higher priced but worth it.
Second visit to Opa today. My friend and I both had the $9.95 lunch special. My friend had the lamb kebab which was fine, served with a small Greek Salad or you can get fries instead. A soft drink is included. I had the chicken kebob – also with a side salad. Both dishes were nice enough and a good deal at the price. Our server was friendly and efficient.
Not busy at lunch on a Friday. Food came out of the kitchen fast. Lunch took about forty minutes.
I still prefer Zorba which is down the street from Opa. But Opa has the advantage of a liquor license. Beers on tap today were Sam's seasonal and Shock Top.
The Story: Came here with a group for lunch. Their lunch specials stood out at a great price…so why not?
Food:
I always get the gyro at a Greek restaurant. This time I wanted to tried something different. Man… I regret it. I got the Lamb Kosintin (totally spelling it wrong). But its basically slow cooked lamb in a tomato sauce over orzo pasta. Bland. Very very bland.
I also tried the eggplant chips, those were banging!
Decor: Very open and simple decor. Lots of natural lighting. I enjoy dining there.
Price: I feel that my dish was over priced. at $27 (with tax and tip) is a little much for a failed dish.
Service: I was with a big group so service was a little lacking.
Parking & Finding the Place: Located in Wayne, It was tricky (in my opinion) to get to but you can park right in front of the restaurant.
Additional Thoughts/Tips: They have a bar area as well. Definately just stick to the lunch menu
Upon walking in, you may feel like you are walking into just another local restaurant in Anytown Suburb, USA, but don't let that dissuade you from staying and waiting.
Grab a seat at the bar and have a few drinks, and don't worry that it is cramped. The place has unrivaled entertainment as far as people watching. You feel like you are in a Real Housewives of NJ meets Jersey Shore establishment. It's hysterical and will surely keep you amused until you get seated.
Upon being seated, you may notice the chairs aren't the most comfortable and the ambiance, or I should say lack thereof isn't going to be very compelling. But get serious, do you really want mood lighting and romantic music to scarf down a gyro. My classiness might be coming out right there as I realize many people might get more upscale dishes (eg octopus).
I just went for spanikopita and gyro platter. Possibly the best I have ever had. The lamb was just incredible. Not only was the food amazing, the portions are huge! Like one person ordered Moussaka and it looked like a cinder block on a plate. I mean that in a good way. All three of us commented it was probably the best Greek food we have had.
With no room left for dessert, of course we ordered dessert anyway.
I am not really sure what it's called, but they were kind of small warm pastries filled with Nutella and served in honey. Just sheer brilliance to combine all of this together. I can't really put into words how good this dessert is. Nor would I want to rob you of your sovereignty more than I already have. Except, one complaint..the dessert had about 6 of the lil guys, but a few did not have Nutella in them. bummer.
service was very good and pricing was cheap, especially considering the amount of food and the quality.
Overall, great place for amazing food and entertainment. Didn't even need to watch the final four on the flat screens there when I was in the live audience of a reality show…
I have eaten dinner here a few times and everything is always great. I recently started ordering lunch from their lunch special menu and I love it! For $10, today I had the beef gyro with Greek salad lunch special. It came with a huge piece of pita bread, a small fountain soda, and a side of tzatziki sauce. It was amazing and the portion was really big. I couldn't finish it all. I would definitely get this again for lunch!
