  1. I love this place. If it was in my neighborhood, I would eat there all the time. I'm relatively new to working in the area, but I understand that in the past 3 or 4 months, there was a change in chef, which seemed to make a huge difference in the quality of menu offerings.

I love the atmosphere here, it's usually fairly quiet and the lighting is great. It lends itself well to having conversations, whether you are one-on-one or in a group setting.

I've tried several menu items for both lunch and dinner. They are pricey, but everything I have ordered is phenomenal. All sandwiches are served a la carte, so no sides are included, and fries are $6-$10 extra. That's not usually an issue, because the sandwiches are huge, and really hearty and filling. I do wish they had a half sandwich/fries or salad option, specifically for the lunch crowd.

Some of my favorites menu include:
    – beet and burrata salad (beets poached in coffee grounds – insanely flavorful!)
    – the fish tacos ($10 for 2 fish tacos – grilled or fried – is one of the only deals on the menu).
    – the sides – brussel sprouts and truffle fries are delicious!
    – cocktails and wine are good, but they are pricey. I wish they had a more robust happy hour.
    – grilled cheese sandwich – combination of cheese, caramelized onions and a sweet mustard.
    – steak sandwich (lunch only) – huge and so filling.
    – crispy oysters – deep fried goodness.
    – hanger steak entree (i think this will be switched out during the seasonal menu change) – hearty plate of mashed potatoes and hanger steak. perfect winter comfort food at a reasonable price. ($16).

The staff is great; they work really hard to get to know their clientele and make sure the customers are happy. They are also really knowledgeable about the menu selections. They have a great lounge upstairs, but usually only one bartender working at happy hour, so it can be difficult for them to get upstairs, which can lead to a lag in service time.

Overall, I love this restaurant. The Seaport District is off the beaten path, a bit, but this could be a destination restaurant. It's small, but definitely worth taking note.

  2. Very cozy and intimate seating upstairs. The bar is on the first floor.

I came here for lunch and ordered the grilled octopus appetizer. The octopus was tough and overcooked but the pieces of blue sweet potato that accompanied the dish was fantastic. I also had a side order of truffle fries (not worth $10) to go with the fish tacos. The tacos (choice of fried or grilled) was okay. I've had better tacos. Not too much to say about the place.

The waitress was nice apart from her forgetting we were upstairs (waited about 20 minutes before having our order taken).

  3. Pricy but so good! Everything I tried so far is incredible delicious. Favorites one are the burrata and beets salad, and their roasted Brussels sprouts with Parmesan cheese.

The place seems small on its ground floor, but it also have a second floor annex, cozy, spacious, and do lovely.

  4. Not the cheapest place around but not terrible expensive either. It's fairly small but I've never seen it completely packed. The bartenders are extremely friendly and quick. Beer selection was great and varied even though they don't have a ton of taps. I've only tried the truffle fries which I really liked. I saw a burger which was huge and looked amazing. We had a private party for my girlfriend's birthday here and while I was a little worried because there was no bar upstairs they took care of us and everything went perfectly. They have a Brazilian band on Fridays which is entertaining and seems to really engage people.

  5. The Hideaway Seaport is an offshoot of the original location in Tribeca for which I've been going to for years and really like.

This location is fairly small, with a bar area that seats around 20 or so people, a few outside tables and a small upstairs dining room.

My main recommendation for coming here though, would be for the Hideaway Burger, which is excellent.  The quality and flavor of the meat, the meat-to-bun ratio is perfect, they use high quality cheeses (like VT Clothbound Cheddar), and the Remoulade and Pickles for which they make in-house are phenomenal.

I've also had The Hideaway's Breadless Crab Cake which is very good as well, and the Tribeca location serves a Maryland Blue Crab Boil on Sundays & Mondays in the Spring & Summer, but not sure if this Seaport location does it as well.  Probably doubtful as it's a much smaller satellite location.

And I like that it doesn't get overly crowded after work, like other places nearby…ie, Stone Street, Industry Kitchen, Ambrose or Jeremy's Ale House, so you can relax and actually have a conversation with whoever you're with.

Overall, this is a great spot for a relaxing after-work drink and recommend it, especially for the Burger – one of the best in the Financial District, in my opinion.  Enjoy!

  6. I was surprised to see that there wasn't a Yelp page for The Hideaway in Seaport. When my friends and I whipped out our phones to check in we were taken aback! This is probably the first time that I've been at an established NYC bar and couldn't check in on Yelp- weirddddd.

They've got a location in TriBeCa but I know that the Seaport location has been around for a while as well.

I came in last night for a friends surprise birthday party. The upstairs space was very accommodating for a private party of about 20- plenty of seating and private waitress service. They set up the room with balloons and it was all decked out when we arrived. The food was tasty, and we all shared a few platters of wings and assorted tacos (chicken, beef, pork). The tacos came with an avocado ranch dipping sauce that was perfection.

I wanted to give The Hideaway 4 stars…but there were just a few things holding me back. First off, it's WAY way overpriced for what it is. House well drinks are 11 dollars- I mean, c'mon people, for a well gin and soda, really? They've got a happy hour with 5 dollar beers and 8 dollar glasses of wine, and in my eyes house drinks should be included in that price point.

It's hard to justify going here when all drinks at Fresh Salt (directly around the corner) are 4 dollars on happy hour until 8:00. The service was also a little wonky. Yes, there was one bartender for like 20 of us and that can be rough, kudos to the bartender for handling that. I was just a little thrown off when I ordered a birthday drink for my friend and instead of bringing up a birthday drink she just took the drink that my friend was currently sipping on off her bill. Kind of defeats the purpose of actually sending someone up a birthday drink.

Overall, this is a solid pick if you are looking for a secluded space to hold a private party or event. I just doubt that I would return for a happy hour at the Seaport over Fresh Salt.

  7. I was pretty disappointed with this place, first I had no clue that mead had closed which was one of my favorite spots when I lived down here. I figured maybe they had the same great beer selection? Nope just standard stuff and overpriced. We specifically came here for the bloody mary's which were excelent before, and they didn't even have a mix? It was saturday afternoon….come on people.
