Came for brunch and the server was very friendly. The food was just ok. We sat in the back area and it gets hot back there when the sun is out.
The pasta tasted slightly fresh made, but a little over cooked. We shared the black fettuccine, the spaghetti, meatballs, and a few other dishes. Nothing especially worth making a return trip.
This place stands out among all the other Italian restaurants in Little Italy. I love the seating area. It provides a peaceful ambiance where I was able to catch up with my cousin and I did not have to shout to be heard. I had the arugula and beet salad for an appetizer and the squid ink pasta with a garlic and cream sauce for an entree. My cousin and I enjoyed both dishes paired with glasses of pino grigios. The portion size for the pasta dish was generous and I even had leftovers to bring home with me. I am definitely coming here again!
Any place that can make a mean plate of Vongole is an automatic yes in my book. Aunt Jake's was a pleasant surprise in quality, given its location in the heart of Touristville. In fact, the Fettuccine Nero Vongole here is one of the best I've ever had. Chewy squid ink noodles, bathed in a perfect balance of white wine, garlic, and butter. The sauce complemented rather than overwhelmed. The manila clams were sizable and very fresh. And what a cute garden! It was as if the Manchild and I were on our first date again.
Lovely all around. I'll be back.
We came here for dinner before a show at the Bowery Ballroom. The service was great and the ambiance was really nice – LOVE that you can see the sky through the glass ceiling (a good literal glass ceiling rather than an oppressive figurative one). I had the lemon chicken which was really delicious, and will have to make my own pasta the next time I find myself here! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
If you're touristy enough to come to Little Italy for Italian food then your best bet is probably Aunt Jake's. Ignore all the other restaurants shoving a menu in your face as you walk down Mulberry because really, you should be able to tell that those places aren't even good because they're always so empty looking.
All the pasta at Aunt Jake's is fresh and home made and you can tell when you take your first bite. I got the gnocchetti with the sunday sauce and it was hefty portion. highly recommend the gnochetti but the sunday sauce wasn't as good as I was expecting. 4 stars overall for fresh handmade pasta and the ample seating space (they don't try to cram as many people as they can in there).
Is this place new? I've never noticed it in little italy. Its a super cute restaurant among all the typical italian places you find in little italy. It was a very muggy day and I initially thought they didn't have air conditioning when I walked in but towards the back, its a lot cooler.
-avocado artichoke toast- SO good. One piece of toast with pieces of toasted artichoke on top. Big amount of avocado under as well.
-fettucine vongole – This is one of their more popular pasta dishes. It was good. My friend agreed that my dish was better than hers. A big portion of squid ink pasta with clams. The clams were a little salty but the buttery garlic sauce is delicious. There was suppose to be red chilli flakes in there, but I didn't taste the kick at all. There is red chilli flakes on the table if you want to add more.
-pasta with sunday sauce – this was also suppose to be their more popular sauce. However, my friend and i found it to be a little on the bland side. I also found it to be a little undersauced as after a while, it just became a dried pasta dish. I think the sauce also missed the hearty taste I was expecting.
But overall, this place was pretty good. The pasta was cooked perfectly and it seems like they make it all in-house. Def coming back!
Solid freaking bowl of pasta. Unlike all the other Italian places on Mulberry in Little Italy, aunt jakes isn't standing outside begging you to try their menu. ALWAYS A GOOD SIGN. The main sitting area is in the back, an open + romantic terrace setting. At the entrance you pass the marble tabletop and can see the pasta masters at work rolling out their 9 different types of pasta fresh.
The menu is pretty simple – choose from of the 9 fresh pastas and pair it with one of the 9 homemade sauces, like a mouthwatering game of connect the dots! They offer a few starters, I tried the kale salad and loved the lemony vinaigrette but at the end of the day you're here for the pasta!
I tried the bow tie with pesto, fettuccini with chicken bolognese and gluten free gnocchi with puttanesca. Everything I tried was exceptional and the freshness of the pasta and sauces really made a difference! This place blows all of the other touristy little Italy restaurants with 20 page menus out of the water. And, like everywhere in Manhattan, THEY DELIVER so a fresh bowl of yummy carbs is always within reach.
I found this little number on Yelp and couldn't be happier about it. Some girlfriends and I were in little Italy looking for a cute spot for dinner and drinks and happened to walk by – I had already scoped out the menu and it wasn't difficult to win over the crowd.
We started with both red and white sangria pitchers because, why not. 'Twas phenom.
All of the pastas are made in house, which you can peep as you walk through to the back garden. The ambiance is somewhere between trendy, date night, and just plain adorable. Girls night for sure.
For food we shared the eggplant caponata and the ricotta – both bruschetta style and amazing. Then for dinner – homemade pasta with homemade sauce prepared fresh daily…and the pastas and sauces are mix and match. That's pretty much the sexiest thing I can imagine. All three of my dinner dates had the agnolotti with different sauces, all of which I taste tested and all of which were amazing. It's definitely a heavy pasta if you go that route and the serving is generous so your belly will be quite full. I opted for the tagliatelle with roasted garlic pecorino sauce which was fantastic. I can't imagine you can really go wrong here when the ingredients are so spot-on and everything is so fresh.
Now that I've finished my mouth is watering and I need to go back N.O.W.
