  1. The great thing about going out with a group is that you can try a bunch of different things. That being said, I will now give my honest opinion of each and every thing I had the pleasure of taking a bite of tonight. Drumroll please…

Water buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes: amazing and the mozz actually tasted like burrata (let me be clear that this is nothing but a FANTASTIC detail)

Eggplant parm: might have been a special? Idk I didn't see it on the actual menu but somehow we got this as an appetizer and it was BOMB

Carpaccio: Have I been living under a rock? I really didn't know this was a thing before coming here. Was nervous to try it but it was good. Could only take a few bites before I remembered that I was actually eating ~raw~ beef tho

Cacio e Pepe with homemade spinach taglioni: Could have used a lot more cacio and a lot more pepe. I had to re-pepper this twice while I was eating it. Cacio e pepe is a classic but also hard to pull off because it takes a very delicate balance of just a few great things. But I'll stop making excuses for them, this left a lot to be desired. The pasta itself was really fresh though.

Lasagna: shout out to Yelp, I read great things about this and it did not disappoint

Mushroom risotto: this was probably my favorite of all the things I tried. It's extremely unfortunate that I'm allergic to truffle and could only have a couple bites otherwise I would break out in hives -_-

Tiramisu: I WANT TO EAT 10 OF THEM

Creme brûlée: Um okay I don't even like creme brûlée but I just wanted to keep eating this all night long (why is Yelp autocorrecting with those weird accent marks? Is that how it's actually spelled?)

Cheesecake: there was a weird chalk-like taste to this and I was NOT a fan, tbh… but a few other peeps in my party loved sooo "to each his own," I suppose

Service: the waiter could have acted a BITTTT more enthused to be serving us but the restaurant was full so maybe he was just busy (or maybe we were just annoying)

CONCLUSION: I typically don't work/live/hang out anywhere near here so I probably won't be back anytime soon and it's not good enough to go out of my way for, but you should def check it out if you're in the area.

  2. The service and food is on point! And don't EVEN get me started on that free bread and marinara sauce. The bread could be a bit warmer but this can be easily overlooked because that sauce is QUALITY.

My table ordered the beef carpaccio, squid with chili oil entree and the spaghetti alla chittara e gamberi. Once again, QUALITY.

I'm beyond pleased to have FINALLY found a decent and affordable Italian spot around my work. Smiles and happy tummies all around!

  3. I had a wonderful experience here. My date chose the restaurant and it was a great choice! The ambiance was perfect – very upscale, classy and intimate.

I had their pinot grigio, which was very good. They also put bread and marinara on the table.

The service was excellent and the dinner menu was great – plenty of options.

I had their ricotta ravioli with asparagus and pancetta and it was very flavorful. My date had the chicken with sausage and peppers (which I tried and was REALLY good; I was surprised that they could make chicken that good, actually).

For dessert we tried the creme brulee, which was also perfect.

Overall, I would recommend coming here.

  4. I past Toscana 49, (Tuscany @ 49 St.),  a few times near my office the last few days, and thinking I don't recall the place. Then I Yelped It and nothing came up, so that is when I then realized this is my chance for the Tri-Yelp-Fecta.

TRI_YELP_FECTA IS FRIST TO: check-in, tip and review

    Oh ya I'm doing it!

I learn they open from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily, so on a rainy day I just walk to the front of the place with no reservation.  The Manager Gus, comes out and welcomes me in. It looked a little classy but Gus said no jacket required. They have a coat check room and also a dining room also upstairs for larger groups along with the first floor bar and dinning area.

I sat down with the lunch menu that had several sections, Antipasti, Insalate, Zuppe, Paste, secondi, contori. (Appetizers, salads, soups, pasta, seconds, side dishes).  I ask or sparkling water, the Proscuciutto Melone, (Parma ham with cantaloupe melon) for my appetizer.  Spaghetti alla Chitarra e gamberi, (Shrimps, arugula, light tomato sauce) as my main dish. I skipped the wine since I need to stay awake at the job, you don't know what wine does to me, I am telling you, yes.

The manager , Matradee, and 4 waiters were all attentive with me and the other patrons about ten. So more than half the 20+ tables were available. No one needed to ask for their glass to be refilled, plates taken away when done etc. the waiters were on top of their game.

The manager Gus was real cool and excited with his restaurant, he was telling me they open 3 weeks ago and that everything is fresh and prepare by their in house chef, (Italian that is).

I got a good brand of sparkling water and the provided a few slices of different fresh breads with a tomato puree olive oil spread that I enjoy munching on while I waited for my meal.

The Proscuciutto Melone was served within minutes, it was fresh ham not to salty and chilled cantaloupe , and I love cold fruit, I put a little tab of olive oil just to see how it would taste and it was good.

Then came the Spaghetti alla Chitarra e gamberi, The pasta was perfectly made and hot with a light tomato sauce that has slices of small tomatoes and arugula, and the scrimps were small , fresh and super flavorful.  You can tell they were cook in their own sauce and not just boiled in water and thrown on top.

The servings where sized just right for me I'm not a big eater and I take my time, I left nothing, I was thinking maybe I should order something more but held back since it is only lunch time. The lunch menu did not list coffees or deserts but I asked for what they have and which turned out to be what you expect in an traditional Italian restaurant.

I requested a  cappuccino.  They came first with a small dish of freshly made pistachio biscotti , so delicious, I knew I had to bring some back to the office for my buddies to try so I wrapped a few up in a napkin and the waiter then brought me more, haha. The cappuccino had a nice  fluffy top and it tasted so smooth and hot.  Gus came by and wanted to slip in some Sambuca that I had to turn down but it's nice that he offered.

I just sat there for a while taking the experience all in. This was a little pricey for my typical lunch, $45.00 plus tip, but it was worth it, I have no complaints with anything, the food, service, nada. So I gave them a 5 star review.

I do want to go back again, hopefully with a few buddies so we can share and get more photos of the dishes.

  5. toscana 49 feels like a lil cozy italian restaurant buried in the whackest neighborhood in nyc. prolly feels like that because it is that – duh! love this place. highlights: awesome service, a few outdoor seats if you're into that sorta thing, really legit food that is perfectly portioned and WINE.
