I really don't understand anyone's bad reviews about this place. I walked in, got a table immediately, had fantastic service, had FAST service, and the food was amazing. The decor is also super awesome and seemed a mix of baseball and horse-racing. I thought it'd all be horse-racing but they had posters of Baseball Cards at the table I was sitting at. They have a nice bar and overall I'll probably be back. I really loved it.
Triple Crown is an unpretentious pub on Madison Square Garden bar row: good for pre- or post-game drinks. The grub is decent if you're hungry and the drinks are stiff.
The bar also serves as a much-needed "improv lab" for so many students from nearby UCB and Magnet. They generously offer space for performers every night of the week, so thanks for supporting the arts, Triple Crown!
I only went to this place to meet someone so all I had were a couple of drinks. The beer was cold out of the tap, the food looked OK, but nothing special, and the waitress took my friend's wine away before she was finished. There was nearly half a glass left and when we said something about it she wasn't given another glass. That kind of ruined this place for me.
This area of dining is pretty much heavily infused by tourist patronage mainly because of the close proximity to Penn Station and Herald Square.
However, that should not deter you from checking this place out.
I came with a group of Improv classmates for what is our last class chill/ after class socializing session. The group was already seated by the time I had arrived because I had to run to the bank for some eating cash.
Once I got there, I found my group, seated myself and directly analyzed the menu.
There were a few waitresses on shift but for some reason OTHER THAN the first time the waitress came approximately 5-10 minutes, the service became somewhat slow. Now, I don't particular care about on point service especially around this neck of the woods but I do feel that we should have been checked on more often than we were.
I do understand that there were quite a few people eating around us that also needed the attention including another long table filled with people just like us. But there is no reason for 4 waitresses NOT to be able to handle that and a few more folks dining.
The times that the waitress did come to check was to…
A) Take my drink order
B) Take my food order (A DIFFERENT WAITRESS DID THIS)
I ordered a Beefeater Gin & Tonic ($8). I asked for EXTRA LIME. It came with 1 wedge. I had to waive the waitress down with whom I had placed the order to and the wedges came on the second trip 5 minutes later. Could have all been solved in one trip…JUST SAYING.
Eventually, I decided on food even though I wasn't going to order until my whole table decided to order.
My order was the New England Clam Chowder ($6.50) which was also the soup of the day. It was good but portion wise was smaller than the portion that you would get from say a Hale & Hearty Medium cup of soup. It did come in a wider, larger bowl which definitely did not fool me.
For what it is, it was okay.
ADDITIONAL NOTES –
I did eye dish that I smelled delicious searing over an iron pan that was served in that fashion. I probably should have ordered that. But if I do come here for food again, I'd definitely search the menu for that.
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat and a couple of beers. The turkey burger was ok but service and the beers (kelso) were great. Conveniently located near MSG
Meh. I came here with some coworkers after work for some drinks. My coworkers ordered turkey burgers with french fries and sweet potato french fries along with beer. They enjoyed their food and beverages. I ordered chicken tenders with french fries and a soda. My food was good and on par with typical bar food. When I ordered my soda, I forgot to say Coke and the waitress never asked. Instead she decided to bring soda water and when I asked what that was she gave me a bunch of attitude — saying she won't take it back. I drank a sip and it was gross. She finally took it back only to give me grief and attitude (and charged me for a coke). She was nice to one of my male coworker and the rest of us she ignored (me especially). The other waitress were nice though.
Spacious place in the flatiron district – Irish pub with a very long bar.
The staff are pretty friendly and attentive. Would definitely return for sure – I will have to update this review soon after coming back to try something on their food menu.
Stay tuned.
I came with my boyfriend one night and found that Their seating is very awkward, in the back of the restaraunt there are two long tables with seating, but the seats are right by eachother…the entire place was basically empty and the hostess sat myself us right next to strangers, we basically were touching elbows with the strangers sitting next to us and it was super awkward since the entire place was empty and there was plenty of seating elsewhere. Our server brought me the wrong beer and when I told her that's not what I ordered she responded awkwardly, seeming annoyed by me and she said "well maybe you'll like this one" and she then made me keep it AND charged me for it. After this horrible start we decided to just get one appetizer and after that we were going to leave. We ordered potato skins and they were awful. Potatoes were undercooked, the bacon was burnt & they were presented on top of a salad??? Never seen that before. The sour cream was also in a plastic Dixie container with a lid on it…I get it if they're saving time and throwing it on the plate but it just looked lazy & I've been to divey bars and ordered potato skins and the food presentation was way better and tasted way better. I know this review makes me sound snooty but this place just plain sucked, EVERYTHING about it. Don't go here.
