  1. Man, so so average food at an upscale price does not work in my book.  It starts out promising because this large restaurant is staffed by very pleasant Korean ladies that are pretty spot-on in service all-around. The decor is the type you find in a pretty nicely decorated jack-of-all-trades Korean restaurants you used to see in the old days.  Both are positives.

The only positives in food are the number and types of side dishes that are pretty decent tasting.  Good tofu, kimchis (cabbage, radish, clear), grilled fish, mung bean cake, and various other that others usually skimp on.  We ordered a fish stew & gamjatang (pork & potato stew) for main meals.  Both were decidedly average.  And at $15 & $16 each, it wasn't a bargain although both were pretty big as 1 servings.  Too much bone, not enough meat in the gamjatang, and not enough fish in the fish stew.  And neither had that requisite taste that would put these into the "good" category.  Sorely disappointed.

4-star service and 3.5-star side dishes make up for the 2.5-star main dishes, so I'm giving it a 3.

Table-for-1 Factor:  It's not really designed for seating alone, but suppose they're big enough to accommodate…

  2. I've been coming here for over a decade…. in fact the first time I was here was when I was a teenager!

And the place has gone down the sh*tter since then.

Expect your appetizer selection to be on the bland side (good if you don't like spicy) and the actual selection to be boring, lacking, too salty and terribly cheap. The only positive thing they retained since my young'n years is the whole mackerel. Other than that.. expect some terrible tasting kimchi, pickled daikon radish cubes, reconstituted dried shrimp that are the size of nickels at best, and boiled spinach. Nothing fancy, or anything close to rendering a 'this is nice' comment out from your breath.

My go to favs are, or rather once were, heavy on the seafood: seafood pa jeon (pancake) and soon dubu (spicy seafood tofu iron pot). The soon dubu used to have entire jumbo shrimp, clams and mussels. Now expect to find 1 sad dehydrated krill that was pathetically rehydrated, but collapsed from sheer exhaustion and ought to be given a memorial rather than be placed in your meal.

    save yourself. go elsewhere.

  3. This is seriously some of the best KBBQ I've had in my life. From trying different places in  Ktown in LA to living in NY, this place is pretty great.

Service was well above par. We literally had a ajjuma standing over us the whole time, cooking and cutting everything for us. We kept asking for special items like garlic and oil and whatnot, and she didn't skip a beat. I'm pretty sure if we asked her to entertain us she would've started making balloon animals. 6 stars for service.

The dry aged steak was wonderful, you can eat it just by itself and its great. All the sides were on point and there was never a point where we were short on anything. They were literally refilling the sides before we finished them. In fact, as the lady was refilling the lettuce, while the other lady was cutting the meat, ANOTHER guy walks by the table and asks us if we would like anything else. Yes, LESS SERVICE PLEASE. Scratch the 6 stars for service, turn it up to 11.

I was almost converted to asking why they are so nice. It's like mother Teresa's in Korean ajjuma form were swarming the table.

4 stars for food, 11 stars for service, which makes a 7.5 star average.

  4. I came here on a Wednesday night with 2 friends. It wasn't packed at all considering it was Wednesday. We ordered the mandu, japchae, dalsotbibimbap, and seafood pancake. All tasted very good. They gave us a lot of banchan along with gaeran Jim (steamed egg). We were so full afterwards. I especially like the japchae, the noodles were cooked just right. It had the heated flavor similar to the chinese cooking. The mandu and seafood pancake were delicious and crispy. Although the seafood pancake can have a little more seafood inside, otherwise it will be perfect. The pancake taste better when it first came out. The dalsot bibimbap was a lil bland. Overall the service was great and the food was delicious.

  5. A pleasant restaurant located in the heart of downtown flushing. An A+ for customer service, and an A+ for food quality.

  6. One of my favorite Korean BBQ restaurant to go to in Flushing.

    1) Banchan (side dishes) they do cheap out when it comes to giving nice side dishes. I can make a meal out of them. Definitely the highlight of my visit to this restaurant. They come with steamed egg and a whole fish!

    2) BBQ meat is good. I can't say they are high quality meat but they marinate the meats very well. I love the sweet and salty tasty of Korean BBQ they do.

    3) service is great. They are quick when it comes to flipping the grill meats, refilling water, and lettuce for wrapping, and one of the waiter speaks Chinese, English and Korean. I only really care about the food but its a plus for those who needs that extra translation. But no worries majority of their menu has pics. You can point and order.

    4) BaNCHaN… wait I already mentioned it. Umm… space! Very spacious. I don't feel like I am hitting anybody behind me specially since I need that extra room to feed my baby. My baby and his car seat has enough room to dance lol Oh we also don't come out smelling like we came from a backyard BBQ.

    5) BANCHAN! Enough said. Love it here.

  7. Definitely a fan of this place. No frill place. Tons of side dishes that are super fresh. They even include one grill mackerel in their side dish and that one is always fresh and delicious.

Tried a variety of things here including their soondubu, daejiang jigae, galbi, etc and everything is pretty good

All the waiters, waitresses here speak both Chinese, and Korean and of course English.

    Will return for sure

  8. Overall, I found the dishes and banchan to be safe but no stand-outs. The grilled fish was great, but the banchan in general was unremarkable. I tried the Haemool Pajun, which was was fine. We also got the BBQ Combo for 2- Chadol, Pork Belly, Squid and Galbi. The first two are unflavored, so nothing to comment there. The squid was marinated well and the Galbi was very tender, but I was unimpressed with the marinade. The Gaeran Jjim (egg souflee) was pretty bland.

All-in-all, service was great. I felt the dishes that we got were on the bland side and the banchan was lacking. San Soo Kap San is a passable restaurant, but there are many other places in Flushing that I thought were better.
