As with all the other Paki places I've dined at- the wait time to order is long if you don't have a Y chromosome.
Anyway, I caved and came here with La H to try their infamous butter chicken. It was good but I was expecting the best chicken makhani this side of Northern Blvd. But alas, it was not meant to be- I couldn't even finish it and couldn't bear looking at it in my fridge so I threw it away soon after. Cheap prices, near my apartment, and plenty of other food choices, I'll probably come back and try my luck ordering in Urdu … maybe then the wait won't be that long.
Honestly, I'm pretty lenient when it comes to these reviews, but I just couldn't give this place more than one star.
For starters, the food here is oily and tasteless. The service absolutely sucks. Everyone is rude and so slow. The garlic naan was the nastiest garlic naan I've ever had. The sweets are overpoweringly sweet. The one thing I enjoy in this establishment is the chicken samosa. It's delicious! And the one star given to this place goes to the samosa.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Please walk down a couple of avenues to jackson heights and enjoy some quality Indian food.
This place has halwa puri in the mornings! I've been looking all over to find good halwa puri and here it was all this time. The halwa is really good so is the chana aloo, but i wish it was a little more spicy, the puri is best right out of the fryer! But i had to reheat it at home, still so good! So today's take out order was the halwa puri, nihari, haleem, and of course butter chicken, with 4 naans and 2 ras malai, chai and 4 chicken samosas all for $60! That's a lot of food. While waiting I had the chai and a chicken samosa, the samosas here are delicious, crispy and not greasy at all. Have them with the sweet chutney or the green one, but don't let them microwave it because the microwave softens them up. They really need to reheat them in a oven. Luckily for me they were fresh and warm. The chai is pretty fantastic too, reminds me of the Patani dhaba chai I used to have when I visited Pakistan. All the food was fantastic! They gave me plenty of onions, and salad to go with my dishes and lots of ginger, fresh green chili, and fried onion garnish for my haleem. Did I say I love their ras malai! It's always pure white and perfect not yellow and slimy like other places. They have plenty of seating if you like to stay just order at the counter and they bring it over with plastic plates. So enjoy a little taste of yummy in your tummy Pakistani cuisine 🙂
