  1. It's an airport bar…whaddya expect.

  2. So I guess I'm the only one that realizes that the food is cooked in a shared kitchen, not attached to this place?

The food-an omelette- wasn't bad, but more importantly at the hour I was there, the sole gentleman on staff was rocking great service and pouring stiff drinks.

  3. Ugh.  In an airport as big as LaGuardia I'd expect a restaurant to work to rise above its competitors.  Not the case with Slip Mahoney's.

Granted, it's a bar that plays at being a restaurant and that's part of the issue but still!  They have a menu.  My sandwich was not good at all (well, I guess it wasn't horrible 'cause I ate it).  It was a tuna BLT.  Sounds good, right?  Well they managed to screw it up.  Weird sauce, bread was over-toasted and it took FOREVER for me to get it (coincidently, it arrived about the time I finished my beer, thus I needed another – hmmmmmm).

I don't think I'll be heading to NYC any time soon but when I next layover in LaGuardia I am going to skip Slip Mahoney's.

  4. As if everything Maximillian M. said about this place wasn't already enough, I'd like to add that Slip Mahoney's has a terrible beer selection, even if you count the things that they were supposed to have but were out of.

Oh yes, and $11 for a beer?! You must be kidding!
Even in New York, even in an airport, this isn't even close to acceptable.

Too bad, too. The place looks nice and would seem to provide a nice view of the airplanes. But as it is rather than as it could be, this place shouldn't last a New York minute.

  5. For airport bars this is a bit better than average.  At least there is a resemblance of ambiance.  As typical for airports, it is pricey….however, when I ordered a mixed drink they came very strong (Thanks!).

I am very leery of ordering food from airport 'restaurants'.   Rarely is it anything worth eating and usually doesn't surpass the Fast Food options.  In this case, I asked the bartender for her opinion.  What I learned is that some of their food comes pre-put together and they just warm it up.  Other options are actually  made on site.  I think I had some chicken club or something like that.  It was pretty decent and seemed like it was freshly prepared and not simply warmed.

While I was there for lunch on my outbound leg the place was empty and a bit sad.  On my way back home I stopped by in the evening hours and it was standing room only and everyone was having a pretty good time.  it might as well been a bar out in the real world.  It was a great mix of New Yorkers flying out and other transients like me all mixing.
