"Not a restaurant with a bar but a bar with a grill". Divey and blue collar bar. The bar tenders are very friendly. Keep in mind that it's cash only but an ATM is available. The burger is excellent.
Been here a bunch of times. Cash only. Great dive bar. The crowd is cool. Upstairs they usually have a band playing. I like that you have the option of seeing a band or staying downstairs, because sometimes I don't want to walk into a super noisy bar. Usually there is a cover for upstairs, but not down. They have a jukebox downstairs. Service is average. I tried the Burger that every one raved about and it wasn't half bad. Super cheap too. The fries were decent as well.
We came by for lunch on a random Friday and were two of eight customers at the bar. The bar is a large oval shape with plenty of delicious looking whiskey bottles in the center. Service was fast and with a smile. This is definitely an establishment in the area and happy we stopped by. The menu is small and has the usual bar food. I got the BLT $6 and the husband chicken fingers $6.50. Plenty of tap beers but we decided on PBRs. The bar itself is dark and has a fair amount of Monclair rugby trophies and other collectables.
A definite dive, but GREAT burgers. And only $5! Good draft selection, service usually isn't a problem, and they sometimes have bands upstairs.

Plenty of parking in the back, but if it gets too jammed, there's plenty of overflow on the side streets.

It gets crowded on fri/sat nights or during big sporting events.

Love this dive bar. I stop in every time Im in montclair. They keep it real simple, a few beers on tap, drinks are nice and strong, and the price very well worth the drinks. It's cash only, but they have an ATM on site, or for those lucky PNC users, like myself, walk over to the PNC ATM at the quickchek next door to avoid any silly fees. I think a lot of newcomers/people not from the area might take the bartenders' and servers' rough exterior as mean or rude, but they're all nice on the inside 🙂 never had an issue or had to wait an excessive long amount for a drink, even on busy friday/saturday nights. grab a pitcher if you dont wanna wait and be merry.
I love Tierney's.
They consistently have good beers on tap, the staff is very attentive (even when it's super crowded, they're pretty quick with filling drink orders), and the prices are great. It is cash only, but they have an ATM on site just in case you forget. Their fries and onion rings are also the perfect thing to have along with your beers (especially if you've had a bunch of them) – I get the fries even when I'm not hungry because they're just too good to pass up.
They never have a designated night where there's a crowd, it's always unknown if you'll find a table or spot at the bar easily, or if the place is going to be packed, which is part of the charm and fun of the place. I've been there on a really crowded Thursday night, and a really slow Saturday – you honestly won't know until you get there (insert cliche here).
It's just a laid back, really chill place to go grab some beers and hang out in the most unpretentious place in existence.
