My friend and I came here while visiting the Jewish Museum during the week. We came around 12:30PM on the Thursday before 4th of July weekend. It was the perfect time. There were only a few tables with people sitting at them. I don't even think I need to speak to the food, it's Russ & Daughters people. The food is unreal. The babka french toast, just amazing. The bagels and lox, incredible. The bagels are from Bagel Hole in Park Slope and, in my opinion, are the best bagels in the city. The service was incredible, the staff are lovely, the decor is clean/crisp old school Jewish deli. Such a great addition to the Jewish Museum! The only odd thing we came across was that there was no line to add a tip when we paid with a credit card. So we just left cash on the table. As we were leaving, there was a line that was about 20 people long, so we came at the right time!
Get ready to wait and deal with lots of complaining.
Absolute mob scene at noon on Sunday, which was totally expected, given the relative lack of options in the neighborhood and location inside the Jewish Museum.
The bagels here are ok when toasted, but most of the bread in the bread basket is just ok, and definitely needs plenty of butter and/or cream cheese to get through ($9). I also wish there was about twice as much lox on the classic platter ($22).
The Chocolate Babka French Toast is pretty amazing ($13), as is the Halvah Ice Cream ($10). There were some notable exclusions here though from the downtown menu, such as the latkes and the Black & White Sundae that I would love to try.

The good: the food is very good, among the best of its kind in the city. The classic board is really excellent, and R&D is must-go if you're looking to hit all the best bagel/lox places in NYC.
The bad: it's pretty expensive (even factoring in that gratuity is included), and the menu at this location is somewhat limited — eg no matzoh ball soup or no potato pancakes.
Altogether, this is a place you kind of have to bite the financial bullet for at some point, if you're a fan of this kind of food. It's well worth it, and this is probably the better location to go to, since the wait will inevitably be shorter here than on the LES. (We got there a little before noon and waited thirty minutes, although when we left it was pretty mobbed.)
Waited over 30min for two sandwiches, and no matter how good, no sandwiches are worth 30min wait, especially not one that's over $20. We were given our sandwiches with not an ounce of apology, despite the fact I watched them pore over the order tickets in confused chatter. Not happy. Never again.
