Never tried this place or Japanese Katsu Curry before. I missed the opening that my buddies went to and they went crazy with the food. Instead of lunch I decided to grab takeout for dinner with my BFF to try it out.
I looked at the menu and I see 'Walk,Single, Double, Triple', 'Home Run, Grand Slam, and also World Champion Curry' with no expiation of what it means and found out that the 'Walk,Single, Double, Triple' is the rice quantity that they add. And the 'Home Run, Grand Slam, and World Champion Curry' is getting add on Sausage, Shrimp, Pork, Chicken and Egg. All of these you can add on your own also to make up your own combination and size.
We got the Home Run Pork and Chicken Curry with the the added Sausage, Shrimp, and Egg. It comes with the rice and some shredded cabbage also.
Well the food is not bad and not great but we ate it all. The Katsu curry is on the rice and the meat which are patties and not cuts of pork or chicken. We shared pieces of the pork and chicken and with the curry it almost tastes the same. The Sausage is small but tasty. The Shrimp is Tempura style and was OK. The rice is plan wite rice and needs the curry for flavor.
The Price was cheap for this area of town $9.50 + tax but a small one would be just $7. I can see some people just loading up on this place. I know sooner or later I will be walking by them again an getting me another order just like I do to Burger King or Micky D's even after I did Shack Sack the day before, it's all good.
Super glad this location opened up! Now I can make have their delicious Katsu curry more frequently without having to make a trek!
This location feels more spacious than the other locations- is that just me? Can't wait to pick up curry for weekday dinners.
Delicious and perfectly juicy katsu! I came in on the last day of their opening week promo and got a Small/Walk size of their Chicken Katsu Curry for $5. Perfectly portioned for a nice little dinner.
The space itself is super clean and bright. Good for a quick dinner, especially on a humid summer evening with their A/C on high! Would definitely return.
Wow. This is some really good Japanese curried chicken/pork, and the portion sizes a quite large for a low price!
The setting is a smaller location inside a brownstone, with some but limited seating.
They do have a $10 card minimum, which actually matters because most dishes cost less than that.
Delicious katsu curry! I was so happy to see this spot open up in midtown east. The portion is pretty big for the price. The curry sauce is great with just a little bit of kick to it. I liked both the pork and chicken katsu, but would probably order the chicken next time because it was more moist and tender.
I am so happy this place opened up close to me by the 53rd street station!
The food is pretty standard in line with the other one I have been to near Financial District.
Really good, cheap and yummy food.
Katsu comes in all the standard sizes and toppings. They had a special for when they opened but now over…
I have yet to try the World Champion Curry..but I could totally see myself splitting it into 3 meals.
Definitely recommend the Katsu pork.
The food quality here is about the same as at other locations. There's a $10 minimum for credit card orders; my order came out to 9-something, and the person at the register said "next time, please, it's $10 minimum" but was otherwise friendly. But I generally despise when places have a minimum, since credit card charges from the companies to the businesses are based by percentage.
The other downer was that I ordered to go, thinking I'd eat outside. Then I open the bag, and there are no napkins or even a fork. Disappointed.
Otherwise, it's fine. Just remember those two things and this place is like all the other Go Go Curry locations.
