“Our first pasta, the Black Truffle Ricotta Ravioli melted in my mouth because of the rich truffle flavor and smooth ricotta filling.”

  1. 3-stars because the red wine list is very limited and not all that great, which I find surprising for an Italian place.

    The truffle pasta was delicious.

I wasn't blown away but I would come back here for the good prices.

  2. Came here for Valentine's Day and everything was great. Definitely a good date spot.

The restaurant is bigger than you would think. We sat all the way in the back near the waterfall. The waterfall and fireplace made for a warm and romantic ambiance.

The food itself was great too. We ordered the Fettuccine Bolognese and the Spinach Braised Short Rib Ravioli. In terms of flavor I think the ravioli was better, but it gets a bit overwhelming to eat an entire plate of it. The Bolognese was classic, but I would have preferred the noodles cooked a bit longer. We also ordered a bottle of wine (the cheapest starting around $40) which was good, but the bottle seemed smaller than average.

Dessert was amazing. Get the tiramisu!! I've also heard good things about their fig gelato but unfortunately they didn't have it that day.

  3. There are few dishes that I love in this world more than a spaghetti carbonara. When Crispo's 3p Classic entered my foodie radar, it became a top priority to try. The pasta is indeed praiseworthy. Pancetta, Smoked Pancetta, Prosciutto, Poached Egg, and Parmigiana combine to pack a punch to my porky palate. The atmosphere is casual and intimate.

  4. I'd been hearing about Crispo and being that well cooked Italian entrees are one of my fave foods I've been interested in trying this place. I got my chance last weekend. It was totally worth it.

From the bar we waited at with a drink to the back "garden/carriage house" area, I like the look and feel of this place. It's got a special character, especially in the back garden area where we were lucky enough to be seated at the last minute change. Nice, open, and great even for date night…I recommend this back area if you get the chance to dine there for a special atmosphere. Once seated, we were greeted and service was pleasant and attentive. We started off with a nice selection of Prosciutto, Soppressata, Parmigiano, Provolone, Caponata which was very enjoyable. For my entrée, I had the Fettucine "Beef Bolognese" (Chopped Beef Ragu, Parmigiano). Very satisfying! Meaty flavorful sauce and perfect fettucine. I did ask for a dollop of ricotta cheese (extra charge) on it when I ordered and it made the dish even more amazing. I was well pleased with my meal choice. Chris M. opted for his fave at Crispo which is the Spaghetti Carbonara "3p Classic" (Pancetta, Smoked Pancetta & Prosciutto, Poached Egg, Parmigiana). You'll never look at spaghetti the same way again after having this dish! I had a couple of bites of his selection at the restaurant and his leftovers at home, and I have to say some of the most phenomenal spaghetti I've ever had the chance to enjoy. I'm not a fan of generic red sauce that try to pass off as true Italian goodness…these are far from that and I was delightfully surprised. I recommend both of these dishes, good classic Italian without any "ho-hum it's pasta" whatsoever here.  To end it, we shared Zeppole with chocolate sauce. Excellent way to wrap up a great meal experience.

Bottom line: Crispo is solid Italian cuisine. I like the atmosphere, the food selections, and the overall package here. I recommend a trip to Crispo to see what they are all about.

  5. Yes crispo yes!

Maybe the best carbonara I've ever had!? Probably definitely yes!

The egg cooked perfectly purely from the heat of my dish upon arrival at the table, superb!

  6. Some of the best Italian food in the city. And they also have some nice Italian wines at reasonable prices.
I had tomato and mozzarella which was great as a starter. The tomatoes actually had flavor this time of the year which is a challenge and the cheese was ultra fresh, creamy and delicious. Tried a slice of prosciutto as well which I recommend adding to the plate.
Could not decide on the pasta so our server recommended two half orders. In all honesty, a half order was all I needed. Portions were large. Did my best to eat both but gave up! They were delicious. One was a carbonara made without cream. It was light and the pasta perfectly cooked al dente. The other pasta was a ravioli in a truffle sauce that was very rich but incredible.
The bread basket was great as well. An Italian restaurant without the right bread is a problem. Great crust and soft and chewy inside.
Service and staff was great. Friendly and efficient.
Can't wait to dine here again.

  7. Came here on a Friday night with reservations for 3 at 8:30. There was about a 15 minute wait and it was pretty crowded.

Upon being seated, they give a generous amount of bread. It was decent, nothing that special – but it did the trick.

To start, we ordered the Chop Salad. The salad was definitely loaded with ingredients as the menu said, but again not a stand out.

The pasta was the real star. I enjoyed the Fra Diavola. It's your classic shrimp and spaghetti with red sauce. I appreciated that the waiter how spicy I wanted the pasta, and really listened. I have a very low spice tolerance and some places simply don't understand. They did absolutely no spice at all! The portion size was huge too. My friends got the Bolognese and Dora's meatballs. Both dishes were hearty and delectable!

The service was definitely on the slower side, assuming due to the fact it was a Friday night.  Overall a good experience! This restaurant seems like an overall great spot for classic Italian food. It doesn't exactly push any boundaries or put new spins on dishes, but it does food well!

  8. memory is short. completely forgot i came here 7 years ago until i saw that i had written a review here. i can't believe it's still here, considering turn over in the city.

so, dear diary. this place is a solid italian restaurant in a weird stretch of 14th street. it's cavernous and if you ever wanted to throw a game of thrones party, the back area would be awesome.

i came with a large group for work & we shared all the dishes. previously, seems like i only had one or two things. in now trying a larger sampling of the menu, it reminds me of a sunday dinner you'd have in a NY italian friend's house – casual, huge portions, and familiar food.
