  1. LAME!!! They didn't even try when we ordered drinks. We ordered a simple harvest sangria that was ON their featured menu. The waitress said it wasn't available. So I orders the spice martini from the menu. That ALSO wasn't available! The waitress wasn't even sympathetic. I did not enjoy my experience at all.

  2. Excellent service and very good burgers. Lindsy the bartender made me a pizza burger and it was sweet. Sundays are $7 pictures too. The atmosphere here was really welcoming and there is a nice view.

  3. Irish pub located in the middle of Keyport,  the widow to the shore.  On a busy corner within walking distance to the ferry and the main strip of shops this Irish saloon/pub has a nice traditional ethnic feel albeit a lil dingy.

The draft selection is typical with Guinness and Smithwicks flowing regularly.  Surrounded by TV's to get your sports fix on or dine in the outside patio.

The portions are sizable especially for big dudes that want to get their feed bag on, you won't leave wanting more for your $.  Obviously for me it's the Sheppard's pie that's always the litmus for any Irish establishment. I found it to be good not WOW, with the perfect amount of beef (boo I prefer lamb) and veggies mixed in the bed of mashed potatoes under a nice crust. Could've used a lil more gravy. The wings got the job done but nothing to really rave about.

I don't see this as s fine dining destination, but a brew and bite while watching a game will make you happy.

  4. I've been coming here for years, usually when I visit my buddy.

When we first started going it was a really great place.  It has kind of mellowed on us lately.  The food is still pretty good bar food.  Great hot chicken tenders, good Shepherd's Pie.  They have a great internet jukebox.  It just seems that the place is always way too busy for my liking.  The kind of place where you walk in and immediately want to turn around.

  5. 6 of us enjoyed a really nice meal here.  Service was pretty good and the food was delicious.  I had a steak and cheese, WOW, not a steak-um sandwich but minuet steaks served with fries and onion rings.  Not sure how I finished it.  We also had the buffalo humus app which was very good.  Came with pita chips with blue cheese crumbles.  We ran out of chips very fast but we only had to ask and more came out.  We also split a cajun shrimp app.  6 shrimp in a delicious sauce.  Very good.  "A" tried the grown up grilled cheese and she thought it was delicious!!

Drinks were fairly priced and there is usually a special.  Saturday miller lite drafts and bottles $2.50.

  6. I'm sensing a theme here.  It seems whenever I meet up with 2 friends of mine from college we end up at an Irish bar of some sort.  This is not a bad thing at all.  I quite enjoy these types of places.  I'm guessing McDonagh's has been here a long time.  It has that feel to it.  The picture I took of the outside looks like it could have been taken in Ireland somewhere.  It makes me all warm inside.

I don't get to Keyport, NJ all that often.  In fact I don't think I'd ever been to this part of town.  Looked like a good area for restaurants and shopping and such.  I didn't really get a chance to explore around.  I was basically here to see a few friends I hadn't seen since the last time I was in town or actually one I hadn't seen in a bit longer.  We were there to catch up, have some beers (a few nice ones here) and get some dinner.

The menu here is your typical Irish pub food.  Burgers, sandwiches, salads and some more traditional Irish fare.  I don't know that anything is going to blow your mind here as far as the food is concerned.  I had a BBQ Chicken Sandwich.  It was good.  Nothing spectacular, but certainly not bad.  You get a choice of regular or sweet potato fries.  I had the latter.

I was impressed with the beer list here.  Sure you will find Guinness here, but there are also a few dark horses.  I'm always interested in new beers.  Beers I can't get out in Oregon (not that we are hurting for beers out there).  The first one that I had that sounded and was mighty tasty was Keegan Ales Mother's Milk.  Yes, you guessed it.  It is a stout.  Oh, you didn't guess it?  Well, you should have.  Nice creamy head.  I tasted more chocolate than coffee out of this stout.  Not a bad way to start the evening as stouts usually have less alcohol by volume.  Talking with one of the bartender's he asked it I had had the 6 Point (Brooklyn, NY) that they were offering on tap.  Although I have had their beers before, I hadn't had the version they had here.  He gave me a (rather large) sample.  I don't know which one it was, but I ended up ordering a pint.  Nice and smooth with a copper color and no noticeable head, it was a very easy drinking beer.  I'm pretty sure it was a seasonal.

Long story short, or at least a bit shorter, McDonagh's Pub is a good place to go if you happen across it on your way "down the shore".  Down the shore is what those of us who didn't grow up at the shore called it when you went to the coast.

  7. Irish Pub on the main road in Keyport. Great outdoor seating with cornhole sometimes put out in the lot to play. I've eaten here a few times and never had complaints about the sandwiches.  Love the fried pickles!!!! Greeeeaaassssyyyyyy but delish!!!

Nice selection of beers and cocktails.  Was just here this month (October) and they have a few fall drinks however the one my friends wanted to try was not able to be made because they had the wrong liquor for it.   They did order the fall martini and absolutely loved it!   She said it was one of the best martinis she ever had (I didn't try it just going based on what she said… Haha).

  8. Old town Irish pub. Lively bar scene, great drinks and outdoor seating.   We have been going here forever for burgers and they are always great. Love bars like this and we always meet really nice people.  Make your reservation thru open table and if you want to sit outside request it in your reservation.
