  1. After working out nearby, the bf and I decided to go on an impromptu date night, so we started to look up places in the neighborhood on Yelp. I wanted to try something new, so we went with Galli. This place is super cute with a cozy and romantic ambiance. Entrance is kind of easy to miss at night when it's dark, so look out for it. Originally I thought this place was going to be small, but the layout is actually narrow and long so there's this huge space in the back. I honestly wish I dressed up a little more (I was in workout clothes basically) but it's not a pretentious place, so feel free to come as you are…or dress up if you're in the mood!

Loved how everything came out super fast and hot. We ordered 1 appetizer and two pastas to share:

BABY RICE BALLS $15 (green peas, chopped meat, mozzarella, pomodoro)
Really good, but extremely overpriced. As stated in the title of this dish, they are BABY rice balls. Baby rice balls they are indeed…and at $5 a pop!!! TOO EXPENSIVE. I think I would happily pay $10 for 3 at the most. Definitely didn't seem worth it at $15. They did come out piping hot and well made.

FUNGHI (ps45) $19 (spaghetti, wild mushrooms, sherry cream, truffle oil)
Yum, I always try to order the mushroom pastas if it's ever available. This one was pretty different than the ones I've had in the past; sauce is not creamy, but instead pretty light one made out of sherry cream (which isn't dairy by the way!). This, however, makes it a lightly sweetened pasta instead of the usual savory. If you don't like that, then don't order this dish. I actually found it quite unique and loved the dish overall. The truffle oil wasn't overpowering, and the wild mushrooms were plentiful 🙂

    CHICKEN PARM $19
BF ordered this one. I usually don't like chicken parm, but this one was made really well and tasted super tender. It was slightly too salty, but not too bad. Comes with a side of penne pasta or salad. I liked how this didn't taste too heavy, allowing you to finish the whole dish without feeling gross haha.

HELLS HUNDRED $13 (Bourbon, Smoked Mango, Lemon, Cynar, Ginger Beer, Cayenne Pepper)
Pretty good cocktail to compliment my meal 🙂 Couldn't really taste the smoked mango, but I still like any drink that has bourbon and ginger beer in it, so this was delicious!

Honestly think their appetizer pricing is wayyyyyy off. Everything else is pretty standard prices for NYC.

This place is perfect for private events in that space in the back (bridal showers, baby showers, private dinners, etc). They even have a skylight above the room…you can imagine how nice that would be on a nice sunny day :).

  2. Food: 3.5/5
    Service: 3.5/5
    Ambiance: 4/5

Came here for dinner on a Friday night without reservations. We were luckily seated right away which was nice. The ambiance here is dark and I could barely read the menu without a candle. Tables were small and space was tight (you could hear the whole conversation at the next table). However, the ambiance was really nice and seem more of a date/night type of restaurant. PS. the super dim lights (or no lights) were not great for photo taking…

Service was OK. Our server was friendly and pleasant but did take a long while to come around and take our order/check up on us. However, I did appreciate that she got the kitchen to have our dishes split into two plates since we were sharing.

Food wise was ok, nothing that really stood out (except for the pasta).
We had their special calamari (Mad) which was tossed in spicy marinara sauce – flavour was pretty bland. Arugula salad was average, needed more dressing and cheese didn't taste fresh. Finally the vodka pasta was the best of the three items. Enjoyed eating this pasta as the sauce was absolutely delicious!! I would order this again.

Good selection of wine & drinks.

  3. Came to Galli on Mothers Day with my mom and grandma. We made an unnecessary reservation because the place was pretty much empty for an early dinner. The front is very dark but the back room is filled with great natural light from the sky lights. Galli has a very trendy vibe and is a great spot to meet with friends.

The food was great – we got some wine, a few apps and I ordered a spinach salad with grilled shrimp. All of the food was delicious and came out promptly. My mom wished the minestrone soup had less noodles and more beans and veggies. The manager or owner was walking around to make sure everyone was doing well.

My only complaint is that they play very loud bumping music. I feel like for the vibe it's a bit too loud and doesn't really fit in with the feel. It also wasn't talk pleasing to my 82 year old grandmother.

  4. Came here for a quick drink and bite to eat so I sat at the bar during happy hour and all of their food is delicious! We shared the fried cheese, calamari, and something else that I can't remember but everything was good!  I definitely will want to come back here for dinner because I saw them bring food out of the kitchen and I wish I was more hungry the first time I came!

  5. Cute, cozy Italian joint.  Might be a little too dim for my liking, but I get it.  The romantic date factor here is skrongggg.

I had the "Bella Bahia."  The creamiest cocktail I've ever had.  It was like ice cream in a glass.  Sooo smooth and yummy.

Then I had the "Berry Serio."  It had vodka, St. Germain, lemon, raspberries, and thyme.  Definitely more on the sour side and I liked my other drink better.

Food was delish.  We shared the grilled calamari salad instead of the fried one and it was sooo much better.  And I loved my pasta with the seafood fixings.  It's my go-to whenever I go to Italian restaurants.

Wouldn't mind coming here again whenever I'm in the area.

  6. Had dinner here while in town and found it to be a great little spot. Very intimate and cozy place but a nice ambiance. Had the vodka pasta and it was excellent. Also, the bread that they serve is very good. Price was very fair and the portion was a good size. Service was friendly and quick. Would definitely come back here.

  7. Great little spot. Came to satisfy my first craving for pasta in 2016… & I AM SO SO SATISFIED. This is a typical (small) NY hole in the wall; dim lit and at an avg $25-50 per person depending on your ability to resist appetizer/beer/wine (which I can't… so $50)

I shared the Baby Rice Balls, Norma (pasta), & Chicken Parm. Im not sure I would recommend the baby rice balls- it brings 3 and they're actually baby sized. They have meat as well, so its not your traditional cheese and rice ball of heaven.

The Norma on the other hand was FABULOUS. Very delicious! Its the kind of dish you can't resist & order again on subsequent visits out of fear that no other dish can compare. Highly recommend, especially if you enjoy veggies in your pasta!

Chicken Parm was basic. Large, and definitely perfect for sharing, but no wow factor.

Overall, really a great experience. Great staff, seating options, and delicious food!

  8. Came here for a lunch on a Sunday afternoon and my friend and I ordered a Chicken Caesar wrap and Turkey Club wrap with side salads, coffee.  The coffee was divine and so was the Turkey wrap.  Just the right amount of meat to veg ratio.  The Chicken Caesar missed the mark a little bit as if there weren't really chunks of real chicken, but just the burnt ends from the grill.  Side salad wasn't really memorable but the vinaigrette was nice.  Might be worth coming back.
