Five Leaves
“Also shared truffle fries (very crispy and delicious) and sampled the ricotta pancakes (unbelievably good with this sweetened butter.”
“The rest of the menu looks wonderful as well but I can't imagine not getting that burger with those incredible truffle fries!”
“Some interesting history with this one- it was opened with the backing of the late Heath Ledger in 2009 (he died before the cafe bar was opened).”

Always an amazing brunch spot! Famous for their pancakes and for good reason. I was lucky to come on a less busy morning but definitely be ready to wait a bit to get a table here.
I have now dined at Five Leaves several times & have to say that Five Leaves is truly five stars. The service is not the friendliest; however, the service is attentive & quick. I've never waited more than a minute before being greeted, & I have never waited more than 10 minutes for my food regardless of what I ordered or the time of day. This restaurant is always busy, so that's a positive if you don't have much time but still want to enjoy their offerings. I've tried several items now: egg with sage panini, ricotta pancakes with berries & honeycomb butter, homemade ricotta with honey & figs, chopped vegetable salad, oysters, & brûlée grapefruit with mint & ginger. I can honestly say that each item is as good as the next & I have thoroughly enjoyed each one. The only thing I wish is that they had regular coffee instead of having to order a cappuccino or latte but it is what it is. I have enjoyed each experience here & if you're looking for a great cocktail then you should try the grapefruit margarita; it's awesome.
Came for lunch on a weekday because I've never wanted to wait for brunch. The place was pretty full, but I could get seated almost immediately. Inside and some outside seating. The place is cute and has a perfect Brooklyn vibe. Nice cocktails, I found several things on the menu that struck my fancy, nice service, and they didn't balk at filling my to-go glass with iced coffee. It wasn't cheap, but I thought the price met the quality. I'll be back in for sure.
The short: lots of waiting and a highly salted Moroccan scramble
My friend loves this spot, so naturally, I wanted to try it too. Over miscommunication, I arrive at noon, when I really should have arrived at 11 and wrote down our names, because the wait is a pain. Together, we waited over an hour, trying to spot whose table we were going to take (there's seating both inside and outside). Their system is patchy, but works. I wish they took our number and called/texted us when a table is ready so we could roam around instead of sticking so close to the restaurant.
All the seats are placed very close together, so if you're somebody who likes to have a bubble of space when you eat, this is not the place for you. I decided on the Moroccan scramble. The portion size was hefty and the flavors and style were unique and enjoyable. The downside was the overkill with the salt. I downed my water trying to balance how salty the food was. Yuck. I realized that the food in and around San Francisco (where I live) focuses on bringing out the natural flavors. Why add salt when it tastes fine without it?
Also, one solo bathroom for all the diners. So, if you need to use the bathroom, be prepared for a wait!
I am a big fan of Five Leaves. This continues to be my favorite spot for a burger and truffle fries. It is outstanding every single time. The menu is much more sophisticated and well thought out than this though and what I normally order isn't even the best that they have to offer (in a good way!) There are many flavorful and unique dishes of meat and seafood to choose from as well. The house made ricotta is phenomenal. Even the salads. And not the kind of salad that makes you wish you ordered something else. Ingredients are fresh, sustainable, and organic. I also recommend the grapefruit margarita. Well made and refreshing, not too sweet. Seems like you can't really go wrong with any of their menu items.
There is typically a wait for a table (especially for brunch) but I think the hype has somewhat simmered down. Like many places in Brooklyn/NYC the space is very small and somewhat crammed. Although this is clearly purposely done and adds to the ambiance. Also, the service is okay. Usually not particularly friendly or attentive and a bit rude at times. But it's a hipster NY kind of rude so take it how you will. I like the outdoor seating the best but I'm equally happy when we sit inside as well.
Came here for brunch on the weekend. It was nice weather and therefore busy, but the service wasn't the best. Sat by the bar and got the pancakes – they were delicious – very light and fluffy. Unfortunately I was unable to finish them!!!! I'd like to go back to try dinner service.

Four Stars
After a long morning of moving stuff, I needed some healthy-ish food in my system. I had a shanty which is beer + sprite. It was refreshing. I also had a BLAT with an egg and normal mayonnaise instead of the cilantro lime version. The bread was a hamburger, the bacon was thin and crispy but not very plentiful. The gem lettuce was fresh. The tomato was standardly average. The egg was perfectly slowed cooked with the white fully cooked with no browning. The side salad was quite enjoyable. They do not have shishito peppers until dinner time. Tiffany had the Salmon Crudo which had fava bean puree, rice chips, and radicchio. She also had the Ricotta, black figs, olive oil, thyme and side of delicious bread. Everything was tasty. The service was attentive. All in All, it was a good place for refreshing lunch.
Quoted a 40 mi wait.. Thats fine since this place can get packed. We were seated at the entrance which in my opinion is the worst seating since theres so many people coming in to get a seat.
As soon as we sat, we looked over the menu and was ready to go within a few mins. Our waitress came over to take our order 10 mins later. With what seemed to another 10 mins, our one cup of coffee and 1 bloody mary was brought by who i assumed was either the barista or bartender.
Now heres where our waiting game began. A group of 6 sat down before us and was seating outside. A group of 4 sat down after we did and was also seated outside. Please tell me how the group of 4 got their food before us and the group of 6? It makes no sense at all.
Waiting 40 mins for an egg sandwich and pancakes is totally unacceptable. When we ask you about the order dont tell me that its on its way. Tell me you fucking forgot so i can get up and walk out. Bring it out 5 mins after we asked means you just made the fucking sandwich. How do i know? The egg was still hot.
Having a packed restaurant isnt an excuse for taking 40 mins to make an egg sandwich.
Ridiculous.
