  1. Naruto managed to satisfy my ramen cravings, but it wasn't really a satisfying meal.

This location is express, meaning that the eat-in portion of this restaurant is minuscule (about six seats) and most of the business is done in takeout/delivery orders. I don't think ramen translates to delivery super well, as there's really something important about the presentation of the bowl. We were able to eat in as on this Sunday evening the restaurant was otherwise abandoned. The guy who took our order was pretty nice and brought our orders out promptly.

I ordered the curry ramen, which came with pork, bean sprouts, corn, carrot, menma, an egg, and decent noodles. The curry flavor was good, but the consistency was way too thick. It tasted as if it had recently been in paste form. The rest of the ingredients were fine, but nothing exciting. My boyfriend had the chicken cutlet ramen; the chicken was good but the broth really unremarkable. It all tasted like a decent but fast-food version of ramen.

  2. Cash only

Naruto Ramen $10 – For my first ramen experience in NYC, it was decent. But the saltiness/MSG (as others have noted) is extremely prominent. The noodles I thought were cooked well. The Tamago(egg) was amazing. It's a perfect balance between soft and hard-boiled and it's really quite a bite with the broth. Maybe if I came back I would get an additional Tamago. I really enjoyed the pork – a medium-big chunk that was pretty easy to shred and ration in with every bite. The flavor of the pork was bold and delicious, but combined with the broth it was way too much salt. The small sliver of a fish cake was tasteless, no exaggeration. I did appreciate the bamboo shoots and beansprouts, they added great texture to the dish.

Pork Bun $3.25 – A small piece of pork, with lettuce, tomato and spicy mayo served in gua bao bun. Bun was too dense for me. Nothing memorable. Seems like a weird marriage of a traditional pork bun trying to be American?

Their Tokyo Fried Chicken ($5) looked very good. And they also have a Chicken Cutlet Ramen which I found amusing lol

  3. Tiny place with a few seats at the counter.  The ramen was fairly mediocre and was even more disappointing when it took a while to prepare.  With the ramen fever that's sweeping NYC, there are far better places to go to get your ramen fix.  The noodles were fine, but the broth was weak and had no depth of flavor.

  4. This teeny tiny place is great for lunch if you're lucky enough to get one of the few seats in the house. Like many places in this 'hood, the early bird gets the worm in terms of avoiding crowds so I'd recommend an 1130am lunch if you can handle it. '

The place feels super authentic and I like that they treat ramen like the casual working lunch that it is in Japan versus the overpriced gourmet treatment that a lot of NYC places give it. It comes out quickly on a tray and at $10 it's a pretty darn good deal. I really enjoyed my miso ramen, especially with some corn added in. I love that they have curry on the menu – Japanese curry is my weakness. I'll definitely be back for that!

It's a cash only place, so make sure you hit the ATM before stopping by!

  5. Solid 3.5 stars. Tiny joint that fits only 6 people. I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a friend to have late lunch. Upfront arriving we were greeted by the two people behind the counter. Surprisingly they weren't Asian/Japanese. I was a little skeptical about the chefs cooking skills…

Nonetheless the spicy miso ramen didn't disappoint. For $12 you get a huge bowl of ramen consisting of one char Sui, corn, half egg, cabbage, bamboo shoots and bean sprouts. The noodles were also perfectly al dente. It was generally tasty but I didn't like that there was so much oil! And my char Sui was way too fatty… Didn't end up finish the ramen( mind you my friend and I also stayed for 30mins failing to finish our bowls). I can't really comment too much about the broth since the fattiness overwhelmed my taste buds. But one thing I can say is that it wasn't extremely salty or full of msg.

The restaurant also has Japanese anime music playing in the background. It was awkwardly very fitting. After all it is naruto ramen!

Probably will come back to try their curry ramen sometimes. But that's before I try all other joints around the neighborhood b

  6. Cheap noodles, rich flavor.

I came here with a friend after a night of heavy drinking.  First ones in this tiny shop, we sat down and ordered the Naruto Classic, noodles with veggies, pork cutlet, egg, and soy sauce broth.  It totally revitalized us and made us feel alive again.

You can also order food, but I think on a quiet day, nothing beats eating in the cramped resturaunt.

  7. After first trying Naruto at the UES location, I was ecstatic when this shop opened near my apartment a year and half ago.

The ramen is awesome (I can never decide if I prefer the Spicy Miso or the Curry).  Broths are either soy or curry based, and tend to be a super flavorful – but a bit greasy at times.  The boiled eggs are great, and the pork is always plentiful in every bowl.   As for the buns, I prefer the (crispy) chicken over the pork, but both are very yummy.

Cash only, and quick service make this place perfect for a quick post work meal.

  8. Got their naruto ramen as well as a the two bun combo (one chicken, one pork.)

The buns were generic but pretty good. Maybe a high 2/low 3, probably the later as they weren't super pricey.

I liked how they served the broth as separate from the rest of the stuff.

    Very Good: Nitamago/egg,

Pretty good: Noodles, veggies in there were fine as well.

Good: The pork was one large piece, a large amount of fat but fine. Just different than normal. Fish cake needed a bit more flavor.

    Not so good: Broth

One of the main things to think about with Ramen is a bit of balance. If there is too much well fat in the broth (well not in a  good Tonkotsu style way,) it kinda prevents the enjoyment of the rest.

I'll give it a 2.5, mostly since it's much less expensive than other ramen places. But honestly, they somehow took pork fat and made it flavorless.
