  1. Great food and atmosphere. Definitely worth the trip

  2. Came for a large birthday dinner and had a great time.  There is a Party menu where you pick a selection of appetizers, sides and desserts for a price fixe.  There was also an open bar available too.

Dishes that really stuck out for me were the seafood paella (a must if you like truffle oil), empanadas, sweet plaintains, coconut shrimp and ropa vieja.  Delicious.  We also had rice and beans, a chicken dish and for dessert, Olivia's Favorite and flan.  Also quite good, but quite frankly, I was too stuffed to properly enjoy dessert.  Flan was creamy and smooth and I did love it.  Just wish I could have eaten more 😀

Sangria was flowing and a couple people in the party got mixed drinks and wine.  Service was good given that there were several large parties outside.  We did sit outside and other than the occasional horn honking, you would never know you were on River Road.  Valet parking was efficient ($5) and when we ordered drinks at the table, there was a $5 service charge.  I think both are appropriate given the crowded dance floor and influx of cars late evening.

Finally got to try the dance floor and man, was it packed with dancers!  This is a great place for a date.  People were older (late 30's/early 40's) and the atmosphere was happy and festive.  Give a hello to the cute door guy, Tim.  Was happy for the birthday party as an excuse to party with my JC/Hoboken friends in my hood.

  3. I was so excited to try this place and I feel like I was let down. The food was good so most of my issues are with their service. First, I made a reservation for 10 people a week in advance for Sunday brunch for my birthday. When we arrived (arrived about 5 minutes past our reservation time), our table wasn't even set up so they had us wait about 10 minutes by the bar. I'm a pretty easy going person so it didn't bother me at the time but then they sat us upstairs and their whole 2nd floor was not being used so I thought to myself, "why wasn't out table already ready in advance?"

Moving on… All my friends and I ordered our drinks and brunch items. Again food was great, no problem there. Then they lower and/or turn off the heat mid meal so it gets really cold during brunch. My husband had to go downstairs to find our server and ask him to please put the heat on again.

Finally, my biggest disappointment with the place: 2 friends of mine had to leave early so they took care of their own food drinks and tip downstair. Then out bill came…and it still had their stuff on there. We told our waiter and he said the computer can't take the things our 2 friends had off so he wrote down for us a total and said we only owe that. So everyone put in their money, all was well. We got up, got our car from valet. My husband and I were the last to get our car from valet and then to our surprise our server appears again saying there was actually a mistake with the bill and we owe more money. We obviously argue that fact because we were explained how the bill was and they try saying the original bill was actually $40 more than what we were given. WHAT?! So we proceed to nicely argue with them back and forth and they have us wait inside for 10-15 minutes while 3 men are staring at their screen trying to figure the whole thing out. Finally they say it's a mistake on their part and everything is fine. Sneaky people!

Loved their food but this experience makes me not want to go back there. And there $5 mandatory valet parking for that super small parking lot is stupid.

  4. This place definitely lives up to its' name. Everything tasted excellent! The service was superb and the ambiance was perfect for Sunday brunch. My one complaint was the valet parking. I guess it's just not my thing to not have a choice, especially when the lot is right there, and I rarely have cash on me. Luckily my other half did 😉 Remember your $5.00. This truly is a Latin bistro, as it takes many of the signature dishes from several Latin American countries. The sangria was excellent and fully of sweet fruit. We went with the red, but based on how delicious it was, I'm sure the white was equally as lovely. The bread came first of course-a good portion and with a fruity butter, tasted like strawberry. Something very different for me, but it tasted sweet and matched the warm bread perfectly. I love when the bread is warm! How it should be! The empanadas are a must! Some of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and three very different flavors, each better than the next. There were so many options, but I decided to go with the tacos-one each of chicken, steak, and shrimp, accompanied with rice and beans with pork. Also yummy. I was full, so I ate 2/3, but I'm looking forward to my late night snack 🙂 Looking forward to going back again, and saving room for dessert this time, which I'm sure the menu is equally as excellent.

  5. I'd been a couple years ago and came back for brunch when a certain Cuban restaurant on the water was already booked. They handled our large group well with only minor service awkwardness.

Everything on the menu looked great and it was hard to choose- I settled on the huevos con puerco. It was really delicious with pulled pork, onions and jalapeños, and a fried egg. I also had the Cha Cha Cha which is as fun to drink as it is to say.

I'd definitely come back, if only they had a better parking situation- the tiny lots and valet seem to get overwhelmed easily.

  6. Made a reservation for 10 for a birthday. Free valet parking. They apologetically sat us 30 min late upstairs. $2/person cake cutting fee. If you have 12 or more ppl you're required to do a pre-fix.

The guac and empanada trio are definite musts! The hummus like dip they give you with the bread is awesome. The server sold me on the salmon, but it was totally over cooked. The skirt steak is a popular must and the mariscado was better than the paella.

A great and active spot in nj. Outdoor seating also available.

  7. My boyfriend and I just had dinner here for the first time to celebrate our one-year anniversary last night, and we loved it!

We reserved a table for 2 at 7:30 pm. Got to the parking lot (it's valet only for $5), the host took our jackets into coat check, and we were seated right away upstairs. It was beautiful, and I really loved the ambiance of the place! The Latin music gave it a great and upbeat energy, but it was still a low enough volume for the ambiance to be romantic enough for an anniversary dinner and for my boyfriend and me to hear each other.

We started with the Aguacate Con Mariquitas (guac with plantain chips). Delicious! You could really taste the citrus-y flavors they added to the guac which were amazing, and my boyfriend said they added just the right amount of salt. I had their Mango Mojito to drink, and you can't really go wrong with a mojito so of course it was great (and for $10 which isn't bad at all for a restaurant like this).

For dinner, I ate the Churrasco and my boyfriend had the Mar Y Tierra. Oh my goodness. DELICIOSO. All the meat was very tender and flavorful, and my yuca fries incredible. (The yuca fries are probably nothing special or out of the ordinary; I just love me some yuca). You definitely get a bang for your buck, too! All the portions were so, so generous.

Our server and the wait staff in general were just very friendly and attentive too. What a great anniversary experience. When my boyfriend and I aren't too busy being broke, we'll definitely come back!

  8. Nightlife review

I've popped in here on the weekends a couple of times. Depending on the time of the night, it'll either be empty or overflowing. Music is pretty straight up Latin (salsa / merengue / bachata), so don't expect to fist pump too much. My main gripe with the place is the size – it's tiny and it becomes a chore to move around / get to the bar. Crowd definitely skews older (high 30s / early 40s), which is a welcome change of pace from some of the downtown Hoboken bars, but it might not float your boat.

Good place to hang out if you're bored of Hoboken and just want to switch it up. Consider combining a night out here with Spirit Lounge which is just across the road.
