You will not be swept off your feet with their specialty in soon dae (Really? The restaurant name comes up as Sundae?), but you'll hardly leave disappointed. Ever try to argue with korean parents on where to eat? I don't bother. We've been here a few times. My parents enjoy it and they have food Little wolves down happily. Good enough for me. I've heard many complaints regarding service, but nothing I've ever experienced. If you're in the mood for a decent hearty meal, it's a place to check out.
Came across this place just driving down Northern Blvd. Im a soondae lover so if theres a place that serves korean blood sausage Im going to have to go and try it. So even though I had dinner and came from Spa castle, I wanted to try it.
The place is well lit, spacious and each table has an induction burner on it. For late on a Monday night there only seemed to be two people serving so it was a little slow. Their menu is pretty straight forward. Each menu item has a picture next to it for you to reference in case you dont know what your getting. I got the soondae soup, and my bf got the haejanggook (cattle blood soup). Both were surprisingly good! Im used to really think, dense soondae from other nearby restaurants so it was interesting to have this variety which was a bit lighter since vegetables were added to the mix. Milky, hearty broth with the other parts of lung and ear in the soup. Im still debating in my mind whether this variety of soondae is better but Im kind of leaning towards not. :/ But on the other side its …healthier? So I think another visit might be in order before I solidify my opinion.
Im ending up with four stars for the broth in the soup, the organized menu with big words and pictures, the prices are reasonable, and the space is clean and new.
Def. a new place to try. They have bbq and chungol as well. Who knows, maybe soondae will be the next new trending food in nyc.
Loveee the jokbal combos they offer here! So cheap and huge portions. Comes with either beer, rice wine, or soju and 2 meat entrees you'd like. You can either choose soondae, pig feet or bossam. Quality of food is great for the price you pay. My go to place for jokbal!
Someone needs to fix the posted hours as the restaurant does not close at noon.
We came here for some traditional Korean stews and soups as my grandmother is visiting from Korea as are my uncle and aunt from San Diego. It used to be YangPyung Hae Jang Guk, but the premise is the same. Standard traditional dishes but in a larger and much cleaner and inviting space.
We ordered a variety of the dishes, such as the seafood bibimbap and the haejang guk (affectionately known as blood stew or hangover soup). It's called as such since in addition to cabbage, it's cooked with liver and coagulated blood. It may sound gross but trust me, it's all delicious.
The bibimbap was huge (it better have been for $15), and once all of the vegetables and frozen bag seafood pieces are mixed with the rice and fried egg, they let it heat up on the electric heat surface.
You won't get the typical more side dishes than your table can fit experience here. A clay jar of kimchi and radish, hot peppers and cabbage with Korean soybean paste to accompany it. That's pretty much it.
The quality of the food was above average, though the cow head soup (pretty much sullungtang) was served with already an extra kick of salt in it, so please be sure to taste before adding more salt, which is what my pops didn't do. The waitress was understanding, and brought a bowl of the soup for him to add and mix.
Four stars because overall, it was a very positive experience. Not a five star rating because it isn't really deserving of it. You won't be wowed but you won't be disappointed. There's a small private lot in the rear, and also 3-4 spots out front. Otherwise, street park!
Gave this place a shot and but it fell flat. It was actually packed when walking in so it was promising. We ordered one of the set menus and bossam for people.
The food here was okay and the service was very spotty. The banchan here was really spicy and there weren't that many. They supposedly specialized in soondae, but it didn't taste any different from warmed up soondae from Hmart.
I probably won't come back.
