Oyogu Restaurant

“Anyway this is a great little spot in the east 60s that I'd recommend for takeout, delivery or eating in.”

“Oyogu or Ayogu or Ayama as it's been variously known is a nice little sushi joint in the Upper East Side on 1st avenue right by all of us nerdy scientists.”

“Best kept secret of 1st Avenue, though not sure they were really keeping any secrets.”

  1. The ol' lady wanted sushi rolls not only made with brown rice, but made without sugar to stick the rice together.  You would be surprised how few places in Manhattan can do this.  Upon entering, we were a bit nervous as the place was empty except for one table.  Uh-ohhh.  That said, we dived in anyway.  We got a few kinds of rolls with said brown rice,  a beef teriyaki bento box and some sake.  The food was great and the service was too.  I have no idea why this place was empty, so you should go in there and fill up the dining room.

Great secret on the Mid-east side. I just kinda started going there out of convenience, but I LOVE it. Its a reaaaally small japanese restaurant, and they do have a small sushi bar in the back. I have never gotten the actual hot food besides miso soup or edamame, but the sushi is great. Pretty cheap, like $5 for spicy tuna roll, if that gives you an idea. I'm suddenly into vegitarian sushi, and they have great asparagus, avocado, shitake mushroom, and garden rolls. They also have some pretty cool special rolls- such as bananna tempura. Never gotten it though…… but the shrimp tempura rolls are great.
Also 4$ glasses of pretty quality wine.
One problem, ask for you check as soon as you can……. once your food is set, the waiters tend to disappear behind a curtain in the back and never return……..
**UPDATE: TRY THE EDAMAME TEMPURA ROLLS THEY ARE GREAT
