I came here because I wanted some chicken and who doesn't love fried chicken???
It's a hot new spot and based by the reviews , it's just one of those places I had to try out…
The menu is strictly "chicken"… Based on reviews I figured I should call to place my order rather than just sitting there for 30 minutes…. I ordered soy and garlic wings, sweet and spicy drumsticks, shrimp bun and chicken bun …
After 20 minutes and no struggle Finding parking…
My order was ready to go FANTASTIC…..
Wings: were good and crispy the soy garlic was a little overwhelming but major points on the wings staying crispy despite all the sauce…
Drumsticks: I loved the sweet and spicy sauce _ I wish I would of just ordered sweet and spicy wings as well…. now the problem I had with the chicken itself it's that it was NOT seasoned … it's seems like they got the chicken straight out the bag … fried it and then added the sauce … THUMBS down… lose 2 stars because of that …. in my opinion the chicken should be exceptionally delicious if it's a chicken spot…
The chicken bun: should of had more chicken but it was delicious along with the coleslaw salad in it…
The shrimp bun: it was delicious better than the chicken if u ask me…
The bun was nice and fluffy….
Would I come back??? Maybe just for the Shrimp bun…
Boom Boom chicken in my opinion is way better…
And I love how they have sides other than fries…
But I must say the staff were very friendly and attentive … even the crew in the kitchen greeted us and said goodbye….
Just make sure u season the chicken and add some sides and it will be better than other competitors…
3.5 stars. Their menu is small and limited, but they give you freshly made fried chicken. The cook brushes the desired sauce on rather than tossing it in the sauce, which allows the chicken to retain its crispy exterior. Be prepare to wait a little while as the food is made to order. We tried soy & garlic and the sweet & spicy fried drumsticks. Go try this new little spot and ENJOY!!!
My family and I ordered take out the other day on our way back from six flags great adventure. Even though we ended up hitting traffic, making us 20 minutes late to pick up our food, it was still pretty good, deserving more of a 3.5 / 4 star review, but kept it at only 3 since they didn't get our order right.
We ordered the large wing and drumstick combo, asking for the drumsticks with salt & pepper seasoning and the wings with soy & garlic, but they made it all salt & pepper. We also ordered chicken tenders for the kids with a side of French fries. By the time we got home, all the food was cold, so we had to reheat everything in the oven. The drumsticks and wings were great, the skin nicely crunchy and the seasoning, although simple, was tasty.
So my review is based mostly on the food because my husband picked it up, so I never got the chance to visit the store or interact with them.
So, the shrimp Buns were eh. One order came with 2…so perfect to share but it was literally a shrimp tempura in a bun with lettuce, red onions and their spicy mayo sauce. I didn't find anything special about it. I think they need to add more umph in the sauce because it wasn't spicy at all. It wasn't bad….it just didn't wow me.
As for the salt and vinegar wings….well they were good….but I'm not raving over it. I did love how it wasn't greasy, it was crispy and the seasoning was good. If you like breaded chicken, they had a good balance on the breading. Eat it with their white rice…..can't go wrong with chicken and rice.
My kids had the boneless chicken wings and I DID NOT LIKE THEM and they didn't either. They were VERY dry. I wouldn't order these again and pick up from Bon Chon….it was nothing close to them. The fries were nothing special either.
I know the place is fairly new but I'm not sure if I'd come back.
This place is relativity new, it open a few months ago two jersey towns from where I live. I love Korean chicken (Boom Boom Chicken, in Rutherford) so I had to try Chickenple take on it, especially since they have steamed buns with tempura shrimp or chicken also.
I tried calling ahead but the phone was always busy so I drove there and placed my order for a soy garlic10 wings 5 drumstick combo for $15.95, You can get other sizes of singles orders or other combos. I also got coleslaw, french fries, and the tempura shrimp buns. The wait was 20 minutes and I killed the time by scoping what my Yelp friends were doing.
Unlike Boom Boom you can see them cooking the food here and they have a double the table seating area that has a cleaner style to the place with the red white wall combo. They also had a artistic quote on one wall that I found interesting;
Dance as though no one is watching,
Love as though you never been hurt,
Sing as though no one can hear you,
Live as though heaven is on earth.
Yes this is a chicken joint!
What make Korean chicken so special beyond the flavoring is the double frying that makes it real crispy but not dry. And Chickenple delivered with tasty tiny air pocketed crispy chicken that was still moist on the inside with a drizzle of source on it to boost the flavor. The pieces were good sizes.and we ass some left over and when I got the craven for some more It still tasted good after it got cold.
The fries where OK too and the found that tempura shrimp buns where better than I imagined with a tasty spicy mayo and okonomi sauce makes a big difference. The only disappointment was the coleslaw that includes corn and so much so that it has a corn flavor to it. I like coleslaw simple like KFC and this was MEH to me.
I would probable go back again to Chickenple but only when I wanted the steam buns again else I will go for the home team, Boom Boom CHICKEN in Rutherford.
