I ordered teriyaki chx rice instead sushi this time. It was really good except the rice was too hard. I recommend to try the miso soup, it's delicious.
If you go there in a nice day, don't miss the backyard! Yes, they have a backyard dinning area.
I'm a huge fan of omakase style of dining but that can get really expensive really quick so I like to order delivery from Shobu whenever I have a craving for sushi during lunch while I'm at home. I haven't had any of their rolls since I prefer ordering their nigiri sushi. Their fish is fresh but they can definitely improve on the seasoning for their rice. For a neighborhood sushi spot this place is pretty great.
It's been about 2 years since we moved into this neighborhood… my wife and I are pretty big about sushi. We were pretty determined to venture out to find the best sushi place within a 5-mile radius. This place has to be the winner! The food is definitely very fresh, made and cut to order which is why sometimes, it may take slightly longer than other places to bring your food out, but they waitresses and staff are super courteous and attentive to your needs. We usually get the love boat for 2 which is roughly about $40-50 and there's more than enough sushi, rolls, sashimi than you could probably finish. They have flavored sake as well which may be worth trying if that's your kind of thing. I usually stick to their green tea which is complimentary. On a nice day, they have back seat patio seating which is pretty "cute" as well. I'd definitely check it out! It's right by the 95th R station exit.
STILL AS GOOD AS EVER. The food & service remain wonderful. Simple but nice atmosphere. Had the fried banana for the first time; it was excellent & not too sweet. I loved this place before & still love it now. Highly recommended
I've ordered take out from here several times. I'm not a Japanese food fan, so I always get the pad thai because they've always done one of the better versions of it in the area. Until tonight, it's always been very tasty and well made, but tonight, it was completely tasteless. Not very happy, I don't know if the Sunday chef is different or if it's just laziness, but I'm leery about ordering this again from here.
Had ordered for take-out. I had the red bean fried ice cream, kani salad and scallop/bacon yakitori. Next time I will order the sushi. The scallop/bacon on skewer had a bit too much sauce and was very small order.
The staff are really nice and friendly. The price are reasonable for the appetizers that I had ordered.
This place is the epitome of the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover." I've passed by this place many times, but never thought to enter. I was not expecting the interior to look so nice due to the dark exterior.
The servers are super friendly.
Triple Tartare- I love the presentation. Chunks of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with mustard soy sauce. It was so flavorful, I want more! ($12)
Beef Negimaki- I'm usually not a fan of this dish, but the ones they serve at this place are tasty and have great texture. ($9.50)
Seaweed Salad- Yummy! ($5.50)
Spicy Kani Salad- I love that they use apples in this salad. It has a pleasant spicy kick. ($6)
Sweetheart Roll- Heart designed spicy tuna rolls. They look adorable and taste delicious. ($13)
Summer Roll- My favorite! Salmon, spicy scallop, king crab, avocado, and mango. I love having mango in my sushi. It was very refreshing. ($13)
Christmas Roll/ Million Dollar Roll/ Fantastic Roll/ Volcano Roll- These rolls were great! ($13)
Shrimp Udon- It was pretty good. ($13)
I've been to other sushi spots around Bay Ridge and this is one of my favorites. The sushi doesn't break apart easily. It also doesn't get soggy when you order for take out.
Bay Ridge has a perennial favorite in Shobu… The servers recognized me and my lady upon our second visit even though it was months between visits… In Brooklyn that is some feat…
The sake flows like water and attractive rolls are garnished in fried leeks and tobiko, not heavy mayo based sauces. I am impressed with the attentive service…
The big three tuna, salmon and yellow tail are always bright and fresh. The only fault I have found here is that they are not as generous with the portions of fish as I would like.
