I came here with my boyfriend on the fly. We were driving on Roosevelt Ave on a Friday night around 10pm trying to figure out what to eat. I noticed the new establishment so we decided to give it a try. The space is very open; you can even see into the kitchen. We were seated immediately. My boyfriend wasn't hungry so we shared a meal. We ordered a beef empanada, tostones with guacamole and skirt steak with rice and beans, potatoes, and salad. The tostones were nice and crispy (4 large pieces). The guacamole was very tasty. The empanada was small and nothing to rave about (I can skip this next time). The skirt steak was good, but then again, I am not sure that you can mess up a skirt steak. The green sauce had a kick to it, which I liked. The chimichurri was so so. Our server did not speak English well, but she was very nice and her service was excellent!
Delicious, well-prepared, and authentic Colombian cuisine. As someone with Colombian roots, I can attest to the authenticity and quality of this place, and it is far higher than the competition. However, I heard that this location has no relationship with Tierras Colombianas, which has a long and well-regarded history in Queens, so that raises some questions about Mis Tierras Colombianas' business practices, but I have to admit that ethical considerations are usually not criteria in my food reviews.
I eaten take out from here twice. Once I had the chicken in mushroom sauce and I wasn't impressed, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. The second time I had the frijoles antioqueños which is bean soup that comes with rice, fried pork belly, sweet plantain and avocado. I have to say this dish was delicious and tasted very homemade.
I guess it was my own fault I should have ordered something traditional.
