My mom states that this is the best Jokbal she's had in the NJ/NY area. There is no seating available in the restaurant- you can call ahead and pick up your order. It takes them about 10-15 mins to cut up your meat.
Prices and portions are very reasonable. You can order in increments of $10, $20, $30, and maybe more if you ask.
Whenever I visit NJ to see my mom, I always try to get their Jokbal – Korean pork feet cuisine. There are few places sell this food yet I didn't find any place selling better quality of Jokbal than this place has. I mean, not only in NJ including NYC as well. This is why I always try to visit them whenever I go to NJ. My girlfriend came from Korea not too long ago, she also visit Korea pretty often, and she agreed that not many places sell better Jokbal than this spot do. So – they can be easily considered as best Jokbal store in Eastside! Their menu is so simple – 3 size of Jokbal and 3 size of Bossam(similar thing as Char siu pork) Small cost $15, Medium $20, and Large $30. You get Kimchi and sauce/paste for sides whichever size you order.
Jokbal is made with part of pork leg+ its feet, so it is not easy to remove its own smell. Their Jokbal doesn't smell bad at all. I can imagine they spent lots of time to get rid of its bad smell by boiling them with all good ingredients such as ginger, scallions and onions. As they spend long time for boiling and steaming, texture of meat gets really tender and chewy. It is perfect match with beer or medium bodied wine with some spice. I would totally recommend them to anyone who love pork meat. They are DELICIOUS. Take-out only. CC accepted with tax.
If you are craving some jokbal or bossam and you are in Bergen, check this place out!
The jokbal was very tasty and the meat was very well prepared. Taste wise, I'd give it a 5.
However, I can't give it 5 stars… I got the medium for $20 and my only complaint is that it is very misleading. For a medium he gives you two big styrofoam containers and you get really excited but then the top one is all side dish stuff like garlic and sauces. Then when you open the bottom one you are like WOW amazing, but then you realize that most of the volume is due to the huge bone that is still under the meat. i wonder how much is in the small and large…
Tip: don't leave in your car too long… my car had that jokbal STANK. but it did smell delicious haha
But yeah, it's not a terrible deal to get some to take home and split with a friend with some rice and lettuce =)
