After a long search for a place to dance we finally found pyramid! I honestly had the best night out in New York City that night because of this place! The club only takes cash which is a little bit of a pain in the butt but as long as you know ahead you should be fine. The music selection was really good, service at the bar was pretty quick for a busy club and the dancing environment was fun and comfortable. I would say that next time I'm in the city, Pyramid club will be my first choice when i feel like dancing.
I used to come here in the late 80's when I had a Mohawk and I could wear a red leather jacket with no shirt underneath. Now it's a disco, but not for Lola as the song says. My hair is barely hair and I will get rocks thrown at me if I ever go shirtless anywhere, even a prison. But I decided to revisit my days on the moon and went to the P club. It is still dark and as cool as Bela Lugosi. The music was ultra Heroin. The crowds have changed, before it was a scene from Liquid Sky and now it's a Cohen Brothers film, practically. But come hang out here late at night and you'll be blown, literally.
I wanted to go dancing to 80s music for my 40th bday. On the suggestion of a friend, Pyramid Club came highly recommended.
Pros: Super cheap drinks, cheap cover charge…they even have passes to get a free drink or something. 80s music, of course. Coat check available.
Cons: IN Guam. Hike from most public transportation links. Hotter than a mofo. (I'm old, I need climate control). Cash only (but w/ super cheap drinks, it's totally cool).
The biggest drawback? Was that they have "New Wave" night, they spin C&C Music Factory and MARKY MARK AND FRIGGIN FUNKY BUNCH?! What planet is that 80s New Wave? We actually left shortly after that. I'm literally too old for that shit.
Not really my scene, but I had a good time nonetheless.
It's got a dive bar/goth party/dance club thing going on. Drinks are cheap and the bartender is friendly, though the drinks leave much to be desired. A lot of ice and poor mixing. But it is what it is. Also, scantily clad dancers halfheartedly gyrating in various spots around the bar. They were playing 80s music when I was there. Fun, but I'd rather dance to 90s or hip hop. Personal preference, I guess.
We stayed mostly at the bar, so I didn't really get a chance to see the dancing in the back room. Overall the vibe is pretty chill here as is the crowd.
Did someone say 80s dance party? I'm with it. There's a $6 cover, but it's not a big deal. Pyramid Club is dark and divey, with an unpretentious crowd. The DJ was great, and every song he put on was a hit. You won't find many places that will play Depeche Mode or David Bowie anymore. Dancing on stage or on their tables is encouraged! In my opinion, there were only two downsides: 1) Drinks, while cheap, are really watered down. 2) Lots of older men creeping on younger ladies. (I know this happens everywhere, but they tend to be more aggressive here.) Otherwise, a pretty cool spot.
Friend of mine performed here not to long ago. The atmosphere was very chill. I dug it! The crowd was very receptive. I met some cool people and they also have cheap drinks! Anddddd that's ALWAYS good lol.
The DJ was playing the absolute tunes though. Can't wait to come back and actually hang out as opposed to seeing a show/performance.
Does Pyramid have the best drinks? No. Can you get in for free? No. Will you be able to dance to awesome 80's music on a Friday night? ABSOLUTELY.
To be honest, I've never been big on dance clubs to begin with. Especially the pretentious ones with the dress codes, the need for reservations for tables and bottle service, and the oftentimes rude staff that accompanies such establishments.
I enjoy Pyramid because none of that exists there. I go there, I order a PBR if I'm low on cash, or a Jack & Coke if I remembered to hit the ATM before I went in. It's CASH ONLY, which is a bit of an inconvenience in this day and age but not exactly the end of the world either.
The seating is very limited, a clear indication that you should be dancing, not sitting. That includes the downstairs dance floor, which has different music playing depending on the day of the week. Sometimes it's Industrial, sometimes it's Drum n Bass. I usually just stick with the 80's jams.
Waiting on a small line outside, I heard New Order's True Faith playing from behind the doors and as I finally entered thought to myself am I stepping into the Intro for American Psycho? Alas, I was just at the Pyramid Club on Avenue A and 6th on a warm Saturday in February of 2016. Upon getting inside I paid a $6 dollar cover and headed to the cash only bar. The special for the night was $5 dollar vodka drinks til midnight. The space isnt that big but does have a separate bar and back room that is quite dark and has a rubex cube on the wall. Overall, I think the design works for this place giving it an old-school alternative east village vibe.
I really liked the music here, I am a fan of 80s new wave and alternative music. New Order, Flock of Seagulls, The Cure, and more eclectic hits from the 80s were played. The later it got they did play some more pop music, but i think that works as people have drank more and are more in the mood to dance.
My two complaints would be the cash only bar is a bit annoying (all though an ATM machine was inside) and the music in the back room was super loud, it could have been a touch quieter. Still, this place is a fun escape into the 1980s without all the cheesy pop songs that are popular at places like culture club.
