The outside and inside decor may seem lacking but their steaks are great.
-The dinner and lunch menu are different and you should call in ahead to make a reservation. The manager also recommends to in your order ahead of time if you have limited time for lunch.
-Make sure you BYOB. Or you can also call a number they recommend for delivery but BYOB is the better choice.
-The head chef and the manager/waiter are very friendly and they know their menu inside and out. You should ask what steak is the best that day and they will recommend the right choice. The waiter recommended T-bone and Lamb chops and they were delicious.
-The price is actually really good for the portion. For dinner, they give you a salad, potato salad, scallion salad and grilled vegetables with your steak order. Ask for the smoked and himalayan salt on the side for your steak.
-"Wet-aged" steaks is what we normally buy in stores while "Dry-aged" steaks are "dried" for weeks. Dry aged steaks can be a little chewier but it is very flavorful and delicious. Dry-aging was the process used in the olden days before refrigeration was invented.
-They also have korean dishes and soups. They are great because the broths are made with great meat and bones in bulk. But they are a bit more pricier than other korean restaurants. I would recommend them for to-go and eat it later rather than dine-in.
Although the restaurant looks a bit out-of-date in appearance, this restaurant aged more than 15 years deserves 5 stars due to the quality of their menu, service, and care for the customers.
Certainly an interesting little spot. Running out of ideas for our typical weekend lunch/brunch, we thought we'd give the place a whirl. It's not really a "steak" spot as we expected though they do serve steak. It's actually a Korean restaurant and while the name suggests fusion, it isn't that either. The food is definitely better than some, and the portions decent. While it wasn't quite what we had in mind, we left rather satisfied and that is what counts, yes?
Delicious hamburg steak! Loaded with flavors and very tender. There is a nice smokey taste to it too. The long shin soup was good as well – delicate flavors and lots of meat. Salt and pepper on the side. Only con is that the decor is a bit dated, and the utensils are very worn and needs replacing.
In all fairness, food 4.5 stars, price 4 stars and service was 2.75 stars. Total should've been about 3.5 but not quite 4 stars.
Went for a quiet dinner on a Tuesday evening. There was one other table and no other guest when we walked in. The waiter asked if we had a reservation then when we said no, he sat us at a table on the side. Per usual, we sat down and was taking a minute before we looked at the menu. But, before we can even make ourselves comfortable, a waiter came asking if we were ready to order. I smiled at him and said no, and asked him to give us a moment. He asked for drink orders then went away.
He must have came back about 3 times within the span of 5 minutes asking if we were ready to order. Hummm…. he seemed rushed for something but what??? There was no one else there! Couldn't understand why we were being so rushed. Once again, politely, I let him know that we are not ready and I needed to look at the menu. Oh.. ok was his answer.
Then of course he came back for the 4th time… ugh! 🙁
At this point I really wanted to just leave and not eat here. He didn't smile, not friendly, kept rushing and when we told him what we wanted to order or when I said I didn't bring a bottle of wine or even when I told him I didn't want to order coffee or dessert, he paused for a min then gave me this 'oh… really?' answer.
Who trained this guy???
I would think if party of 2 is spending over $100 on a meal, we can take 5 or 10 mins to talk and decide, no?
In any case.. we ordered wet aged ribeye med rare & dry aged NY strip med rare. Again, when I said I didn't want any appetizer he looked at us with this facial expression….
We were there for the food and was trying very hard not let him get to me.
As per usual, meat was so tender and tasty I was so glad I didn't walk out of this place once again. Grilled veggies were good, sauce was tad bit sweet for my taste.
They served a small bullet of sweet potatoe puree with kimchi topping and 3 types of salt for the steak. Sweet potatoe puree was very sweet.. wished this was served as a desert rather then a pre-dish appetizer. 3 types of salt complimented the steak and esp the garlic salt was delicious.
Soon, the manager came around letting us know that there was a new chef on site & the menu had new items so try them. By this time, the place was quite full. Nice ambience and great steak but not sure if I want to return anytime soon.
A great place to get your meat fix. After being a regular customer at the NYC location for years, I was expecting the same sort of experience here. They could not be MORE different. Whereas the city location puts a lot of emphasis on ambience and giving you an upscale dining experience, the Fort Lee location is much more home-like and cozy. There is no ambience to speak of (unless you find a butcher freezer case sexy) and the family that owns the establishment is clearly present. The NJ location is BYOB… which we should have known, but we were quite disappointed to show up without wine. Still, the meat quality is superb and korean food and side dishes are always reliably good. We ordered the steak for 2 AND the bacon. The bacon is great, however, definitely overkill on top of everything that comes with the steak meal!
What a terrible and disappointing experience. Here are my major points of contention:
1 – First of all on a Friday night there were literally 3 tables including us. That's terrible foreshadowing that we should've picked up on, but based on the positive yelp reviews I was extremely hopeful.
2 – Medium rare to them is essentially medium. There was no hint of rare in that term to them.
3 – We ordered three entrees for the three of us. Be warned that the side of mac/potato salad that apparently comes with an entree is only one per table not one per entree. We were told we would have to pay extra for the other two. Then oddly we received 2 sides of "veggies/side salad" and when we asked for a 3rd we were told that we were supposed to share. Huh? Arbitrary.
4 – And to add insult to injury the steak had absolutely no seasoning and no flavor.
I'm not sure if these other yelp reviews are real, but my experience tonight sadly and absolutely bombed. And I'm still hungry.
My Boo Boo took me here for my Bday last year. We've been to the other location in NYC. The price is NYC here too 🙂
I think there's much to add about this place. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It's BYOB but there is a corking fee. We normally don't drink so I'm OK with that.
We shared a pumpkin soup and a t-boner steak. And I think I got the lamb chops.
I'd rather pick this place than other phoo phoo places like the Charthouse.
Prime & Beyond was my first Korean steakhouse experience. I'm not really sure what exactly makes it Korean, save for a few Korean dishes like bibimbap and bulgogi. Other than that, the steaks are cooked American style.
The place is small but it wasn't too packed for a Wednesday night. It also happened to be Christmas Eve Eve and it was pouring, so I'm not sure how busy it can get a normal weekday.
They have a family-style menu, which features your choice of steak (prices vary between different cuts and they go by pounds). We ordered the porterhouse and the wet-aged boneless steak. This also includes green salad, potato salad, grilled veggies, and ice cream. Nothing exciting. We did the math afterwards and realized it would have been cheaper/more worth it if we had just ordered individual steaks instead.
While the steak was pretty good, I'm not sure if it was good enough to make me come back here again. I'm sure there are equally good, if not better steak out there for a better price.
Tip – BYOB for a $5 fee (not sure if this is per bottle though)
