  1. LOVED THIS PLACE!!! Very relaxed atmosphere with great food and drinks.

I will start off by saying I am an adventurous eater. I really came here strictly for some of the delicious grasshopper tacos and they certainly did not disappoint. I get it they look kinda gross but they really taste amazing. a bit of a nutty flavr and with the lime juice they are soooo good. I will further by saying that the majority of my table feel differently and did not order the grasshopper tacos but they all loved their dishes. Some of the other dishes ordered and thoroughly enjoyed were the queso fundito(one of my all time favorites), elotes, guacamole, carnitas tacos, a lot of people LOVED their langosta tacos.

Besides the food their margaritas were amazing! We ordered a few pitchers of frozen raspados and pepinada margaritas, both were amazing and highly recommended.

Our server was a lot of fun and very attentive. This place is very casual so just come and expect to have a lot of fun.

  2. Tacuba is starting to become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Astoria. I've been a handful of times and every experience is better than the last. It's a bit on the pricey side, but the food is excellent and has great restaurant "party vibes".

I would recommend the guacamole, quesadillas, shrimp tacos, octopus&chorizo tacos (bf loves them, rice/beans etc!! It really is all super tasty. Top it off with a pitcher of margarita and you're in for a fun dinner!

  3. Came here for lunch on a Sunday to catch up with a friend.

We didn't have reservations, but when I got here around noon, the whole place was completely empty except for one other table. It slowly filled up over the next 2 hours but it was never quite full.

The restaurant itself is quite spacious with plenty of interesting Latino decorations everywhere. Lighting was good as well since it sits on a corner and has large windows on two sides.

Neither my friend were that hungry, so we ordered some guac to start and then had one drink each plus a small entree.

They have an unlimited refills deal for $20 for 1.5 hours with a couple different options – sangrias, mimosas, and bloody mary's come to mind but there were some other options as well. I was going to a wedding later in the day so I decided to skip the bottomless booze and ordered a lime margarita. The margarita was very refreshing and definitely very lime-y. My friend got the mango margarita which she really enjoyed as well.

For food, I ordered two empanadas, one chicken and one shrimp. The shrimp was by far my favorite, as part of the chicken empanada was overly burnt to the point of being inedible. The chicken meat was disappointingly dry as well.

I liked my friend's order of the chicken quesadilla more. I've never quite seen a quesadilla like this that was served open faced like a pizza, and for some reason the chicken here tasted less dry than the chicken in my empanada.

My favorite item of the meal was the dessert! We ordered the Pastel de Chocolate and it was a deliciously warm chocolate fudge-like cake (similar to a lava cake in texture if you've had that). We were both already pretty stuffed at this point but we devoured this cake down to the last crumb. Highly recommend everyone tries this!

Overall we paid $36 pp after tax and tip.

  4. I came here with a big group and we give then the heads up, that we were coming a few days ago.

We had the 1.5 hours of unlimited happy hour drinks for $19.95 deal.

The service was very slow (it was expected with a table of 25 people, even though they had heads up we were going) when someone orders a drink it took a very long time and the server was not taking an other drink order unless you were finished with the previous one.

I went with the Carne Asada Con Huevo (Steak Medium and egg over easy), my food took a very long time to come out (I was the last one to get my food) and when my food arrived the orders was mess up.

Although the staff and the manager were very gentile to apologize for what happened, my experience was very bad in this place. At the end, I ended giving my food away to one of my friend.

  5. This place is very respectable.  My wife and I got turned away from studio city; apparently bringing a 3 week old to a beer garden is frowned upon so we stopped in here.  We split guacamole and queso fundito.  The guacamole was not prepared table side and lacked flavor.  The fundito was good, not great.   It had a good balance of oil and cheese but was served with flower (not corn) tortillas.  We also had entrees.  My wife had chicken enchiladas and I had the chicken mole.  The entrees were a little on the small side but very solid.  The chicken mole was spicy and served with a sweet plantain purée.  We hung around a bit and had a few drinks and watched the met game.   The staff was super friendly and attentive.  If I was in the area, I'd consider coming back.

Pricey…  I thought they charged me for a broken window!

  6. I really great Mexican place, right in front of the Museum of Moving Images. I found it by bumping in it, and it was a wonderful surprise and lunch.
The place is pretty big, with great decors, light coming from the windows, and really polite and nice servers.

Over lunch they have a special offer of free cocktail refill for 1.5 hours. I had a $13 chicken quesadilla, which was served open, on a high tin plate. It looks like a pizza, and it was delicious.
My friend has Peruvian ceviche and told it was really good as well.

  7. Came here late on a Saturday after a wedding. Service was great. Margaritas were yummy. Tacos, 3 kinds of ceviche and loaded nachos (steak and chorizo) were all delicious!! Would recommend and come again!

  8. Located across the street from the Museum of the Moving Image, we popped in to Tacuba Cantina for margaritas and a late afternoon snack.

One is immediately impressed by the ambience.  The restaurant has a fun, cool vibe.  The food — or at least what we ordered — was like tapas (which honestly, isn't my favorite.)  The quesadilla is open-faced like a pizza and reminded me of something I made for dinner last week.  Three small, soft tacos to a portion.  (Eh.)  But we enjoyed the beef nachos.  And  margaritas.  A pitcher was adequate for the four of us.
