  1. Yes, I know, the restaurant is right under the el train. It's loud, very. There is no ambiance.

But the food is really good authentic Dominican stick to your ribs. The portions are massive. The coffee is rich and delicious, the kind that gives you super powers after a cup full. It's always busy inside.

The Sancocho soup on a torrentially rainy day really hits the spot.  Entree prices at under $10 each are, well, economico.

  2. It was close, on route and yelp rated it highly.  Anyway, for 4 dishes, it was $28. Very cheap!  We got the lunch special at 7:30pm.  The portions were huge. Yellow rice and pinto beans were good but I would have preferred black beans.  The oxtail was delicious, but the chicken and the beef were a bit dry.  The sweet plantains were amazing!  And the people working there were really nice and spoke English. Just note that it's in the Bronx, under a bridge of sorts so go during daylight.

  3. We came. We saw. We stuffed our faces. We paid $45 for the five of us (not including tip, which we gave generously for very friendly service). My Puerto Rican companions were way more critical of the Dominican style than I (I like all the variations), but everyone agreed Economico is GOOD FOOD for CHEAP. Pernil, maduros, pasteles and malta: so satisfying. But if you get the pasteles, get the pork not the chicken. The pork was heaven but the chicken was tasteless.
