I visited Bo's on a recent trip to New York and loved it! I've lived in New Orleans for 4.5 years, so I appreciate the cajun spin on the menu and definitely think Bo's achieves a good NYC/Nola balance.
I started off with a Kimi's Cleanse from the bar, which was fucking delicious. I'm a sucker for a cucumber cocktail, and this one didn't disappoint….so I got another.
The monkey bread was buttery and delicious, the shishito peppers were flavor-packed without being too spicy, and the fried alligator was Nola-approved.
For my entree, I had the cavatelli and it was out of control. I'm picky about my pasta and this shit was GREAT. The ricotta was a perfect touch on the dish in combination with the heirloom tomatoes and eggplant. I really enjoyed it and wished I had saved a little more room to finish it, but those appetizers tho.
Overall, the place is pricey but the atmosphere and food makes this worth a splurge-night-out.
Decent spot for small bites and drinks, would consider coming back.
I stopped by with a friend on a weekday evening with a reservation at 6:30 PM, and it wasn't too crowded at the time, but it filled up over the course of the next several hours. We split the crispy alligator, the octopus tacos, and the pork belly, the former of which was interesting and fairly well prepared, not too dry or overly breaded, while the latter was very tender and had nice flavor as well. I found the octopus tacos a bit bland but not bad as well. The drinks I had were also decent and fairly reasonably sized/priced. It's a nice spot for smaller groups, and probably a place I'd consider coming back to for the same situation or for a full meal.
Flatiron is not my preferred place to hang out, so this restaurant is a welcome addition to the area. There's a huge lack of good Cajun/Creole places in NYC. While I can't attest to the authenticity of the food, it's definitely tasty and a cool place for dinner/a date/catching up with friends. The place is big and has a cool setup where the tables are kind of sectioned away from each other. Also has very cool lighting and decor.
We ordered the following dishes: Crispy alligator, Tomato Andouille Gumbo, Sea Scallops, and Cajun Pork Chop. The alligator came breaded and fried crispy, like popcorn chicken, and tasted pretty similar to that, with a chewier texture. The pieces went well with the aioli. The gumbo was tasty, but it felt almost too tomatoey and almost saucy. Not my favorite kind of gumbo. The sea scallops were delicious, seared perfectly with the mushrooms. The portion was small, but that was fine with me since I wasn't extremely hungry. Also tried a bit of the pork chop, which was huge and covered in cheese and gravy. It was good, but a little too rich and heavy for my taste. Overall though, I felt like the food was pretty good.
The service was very good, although it took a while for our entrees to arrive. Also, I don't recommend getting the cocktails here. We each ordered different ones and neither of us really liked them. Overall though, it's a nice place in the area, and I'd consider going back and trying different dishes.
I highly recommend this place for a low lit dinner with live music and great food. The bread that they give to start is enough to want to come back here. We asked the server what his favorite items on the menu were and we went with all his recommendations. We ordered Crispy Alligator, Housemade Cavatelli, and Mac & Cheese to split between 2 people. This was a perfect amount and all of it was great. The Alligator tasted like chicken with a chewier texture and the Housemade Cavatelli had great flavor. The Mac & Cheese was also really good. The service was great, very attentive. Cozy atmosphere with soft live background music. Very clean and cute bar in the front.
Quite a gem – came here after work with coworkers and friends for dinner and it was very fun. The food is not cheap by any means but tasty and the atmosphere is fun. I think this would also be a fun spot for drinks because the bar looked cool and pretty poppin even on a weeknight. Overall, would come back again – was a really fun time!
It's a small spot just around the corner from the Flatiron building and Madison Square Park. Some nice touches on the unique decor. Great cocktails, good for happy hour or an early drink. The southern food is quite good. I recommend for small groups and younger patrons wanting to have a very sociable meal.
Sat at the bar, quiet on Monday afternoon. Bar area is nice enough; restaurant seating in back looked pretty. Might be worth a try on a date? I did not notice any background music.
I had a sazerac cocktail which was well made. Bartender on shift was professional, friendly. I will go back – I see that they have beignets 🙂 I need to go back sometime soon.
Had a great time catching up with some gfs here. The scene is popping for a Thursday evening. I got the antebellum cocktail which was much needed after work. We shared the shishito peppers ( careful, can be really painfully spicy, even for me), Mac and cheese (interesting, not sure if its worth the calories) and the brussels sprouts (so good! Highly recommend). I ordered the sea scallops (odd flavors that don't go well together)and my friends got the fried chicken (a bit dry and bland) yellowfin tuna (ok, overcooked)and octopus tacos (pretty good). Service was good.
