Wow. Didn't expect an authentic Japanese dining experience in Port Washington. It's conveniently located across the street from the PW LIRR. When you first enter, the second set of doors just slide open. They're automatic and are all glass. Lends to the interior decor, which is mostly glass partitions and wide open seating.
Clean lines and simple decor makes it more elegant and spacious. There's ample bar seating for those coming in for cocktails and the TV screens. Then there's the spacious sushi bar seating, perfect for watching the chefs prepare your Omakase. And for $90, you better believe it. You'd want to watch them prepare those fresh delectables.
We came to celebrate my husband's birthday. The menu had a nice selection of appetizers. We started with the classic gyoza and a lobster and spicy tuna roll. Check out my pics. And for a family treat, I ordered the pork sliders with siracha and teriyaki sauce. All three were crowd pleasers. Throughout our meal, our server came to check in on us several times and he was very attentive on explaining what was plated before us.
Onto our entrees. We all ordered sushi or sashimi. The cooked food choices were plenty but the true sign of a great sushi joint is its fish. My hubby picked the sashimi tasting dinner. I ordered the sushi and sashimi combo. Note, the prices here are not for the faint of heart. You get what you pay for…deliciously prepared premium sushi with a price to match. Each piece was delicately presented on its own stack of shaved radish so visually, you could pause and enjoy each selection before moving onto the next. Other pieces were aptly placed atop a shiso leaf. Each piece of sushi or sashimi was a standout on its own. One more flavorful than the next. My husband's tasting set was amazing. They had wagu beef as one of the pieces which was a surprise and a melt in your mouth marbled piece of beef. Awesome.
I ordered a side of scallop sashimi (hotate). It was one of the best scallops I've had in a long time. The scallop had a nice sweet finish and it was served with cucumber medallions.
This was hands down the best Japanese restaurant in the hood and in these parts. Like your city counterparts, you will not be disappointed. This place would've gotten five stars if it had a dessert menu (for the ones who want to know, they have three flavors of Ice cream). While a bit unusual, there is no real dessert menu. But that's OK. After that meal, who'd want to spoil the after taste. Love this place.
