Chick P has a lot of options (three types of falafels, more varieties of salads than I can think of) and does almost all of them superlatively. The falafel is cooked fresh when ordered, and are about the best I've had in NYC–smaller than most so the crunch ratio is higher. I really like the original, and the spicy falafel have the perfect level of heat. Whole wheat or white pitas are available, both very good and charred over the burner to order.
The key to the salads here is that none of them (with the possible exception of the purple cabbage) is overdressed. The Israeli salad (what most people would call a chunky tabouleh), the slaw, and the carrot and beet salads are always light and refreshing, and the use of good produce is evident.
And yes, the hummus is excellent. One of my favorites is the Iron Hummus platter, which comes with sauteed spinach and pecans. If you ask nicely, they'll give you some extra pitas, allowing you to take down the whole plate (I mean, that's what I do, but it's definitely enough to share). The masabacha is a similar, spicier alternative, and also comes with fresh warm whole chickpeas to stir in.
Friendly folks behind the counter as well. This is my favorite meatless dinner in the area.
I came here for quick bite before an event at the Barclays Center. It is only a short walk from the Barclays Center to here, so it is very convenient.
Chick P is a very small place with limited seating. They are known for their falafels and hummus. The menu is simple and small.
We ordered the Popeye Delight Falafel. It is a spinach & mushroom falafel with hummus, spinach, red cabbage, and tahini. Oh my!! Is this not the best falafel I have ever had. It was a huge falafel sandwich which I wasn't expecting. It was soft, slight crispy taste, hot, and freshly prepared. It was a very flavorful falafel. It has to be one of the best I have ever had.
We also had the Masabacha Hummus Platter. It is hummus with warm whole chickpeas, hard-boiled egg, jalapeno-lemon sauce and tahini. This comes with a side of pita bread. This was a pretty good tasting hummus. Fresh made hummus. The flavors goes well together. I wish I had more pita bread to dip into the hummus.
Prices are decent here and the owner is friendly here.
Guess what no meats involved here. Fresh ingredients with a ton of flavor. Delicious!!! Feed Me More Falafel!!!
3 stars is A-OK and this place was A-OK. I came in, ravenously starving and ate a shit-ton of food. This place is equidistant between mine and my friend's house, so we settled here. The falafel was very fresh and very flavorful, but basically came with 3 different side of cabbage/slaw. I'm ALL about dat cabbage, but something else maybe? Green hot sauce was HOT, which I enjoyed.
Also, I paid $1.63 for a can of seltzer, sooooooooooo yeah
Stopped by Chick P for a quick bite before a yelp event and had an excellent falafel sandwich!
Chick P is a super small and narrow casual spot with just some counter seating along the windows. A huge menu display is propped up high above the register area and notes 4 straightforward categories — sandwiches, platters, salads and beverages.
I decided on the popeye delight sandwich which consists of spinach and mushroom falafel, hummus, spinach, red cabbage and tahini. I waited about 5 minutes before my order was set in front of me. The sandwich was huge and amazing! The falafel was piping hot and so, so crisp with a soft, tasty inside that was more mushroom dominant but wonderful. The spinach was fresh and the cabbage was nice and crunchy. The hummus was so light and borderline fluffy and the perfect binder for all the ingredients. It was also put together very well — despite being one of the larger(and better!) falafel sandwiches I've had, nothing fell out on to my lap while I was eating it.
Friendly service and decent prices. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area.
Love this place. Fun takes on the traditional falafel sandwich. I get the Red Hot Chili sandwich ($7) every time and would highly recommend.
I gotta admit that these are some off the wall falafel balls. Lol
I've walked by this place several times and never thought about entering until one day I just had to eat falafel(the Arab in me). I remembered seeing this place from before, walked in, ordered the trio for 11 bucks. I thought at first it was pricey until I saw my plate! They give you mine huge balls, Of which are different flavor, and taste so freakin good. The salad, the hummus, tahini and pickles all came together beautifully! I could not eat it all and brought the rest home for later.
This my new fav spot for crispy. Fresh, yummy falafel.
Service was a little slow and less than friendly but likely the best falafel wrap I have ever had. It had hummus and Tahini sauce and an Israeli slaw on it. The pita bread was grilled and the handmade falafel was cooked and seasoned perfectly. A total hole in the wall but very close to the Barclay's center so the perfect quick bite before an event. We also ordered the Greek salad which was huge and the side of fries which was like little potatoes. Both very good.
Feeling a little Middle Eastern flavor on the cheap. This little takeout knocks it out with killer hummus. $4 for a container tasting like fresh tahini, lemon, added sesame oil paprika and parsley- I'm addicted to this hummus- cheaper than some store brands, and so delicious .
