I have been to the Sitar Palace restaurant several times. The first time that my fiance took me there I was not impressed. It is a small space with about 5 to 10 small tables. There was a beverage refrigerator in the front. Seating is in the back, and it doesn't seem to be used often. But it was clean. Their focus seems to be mostly take out and catering, hence the no frills seating area.
The second and third time, we actually ordered food for small parties. We placed our order a few days in advance for one party. For the other party, we picked up food that was ready to take. Unfortunately they don't deliver but the quality of the food is so good it doesn't even matter.
In all 3 occasions (dine in and catering), the food was SLAMMING! At our events, both Indians and non-Indians wiped their plates clean. every one was especially a fan of the ayvil and the fried fish. The ayvil was flavorful with a delicious coconut flavor and tons of vegetables. What a delicious way to get one's daily greens. My fiance is South Indian and both he and his parents thought the food was awesome and extremely authentic.
We found the food affordable, authentic, and yummy. It's truly a hidden neighborhood gem.
$35 takeout dinner for two is pricey for this nabe especially considering the quality of the food. The chicken was so overcooked, it seemed that the sub par flavored meals had been pre-prepared and then reheated. Maybe it would have been better had we ordered earlier in the weekend. Meh.
