  1. Went here with a large group of 9.  Service was excellent and owner was very accommodating.  They did a great job of educating us on what would be good options for the group.  We ordered two boats.  They have a special on boats where you can order specific numbers of specialty rolls and sushi.  This is a BYOB which we did not know.  Would definitely go back.

  2. So many sushi places in the area, but few stand out. What makes the difference?  Sushi is a food genre that takes time and care.  And restaurants that offer great sushi SHOULD also offer great sashimi (a personal favorite of mine).  Sushi Laco offers nicely made sushi AND some of the best sashimi I've ever had.

The sushi was both creative and traditional.  For example, tako (octopus) sushi is typically served as nigiri-sushi (a flat slice of octopus atop a "finger" of rice).  Octopus can be a bit toothsome, and to me, nigiri has never been the way to go.  Sushi Laco creates octopus ROLLS using the distal segments of the octopus, nestled in a California-roll type of arrangement.  This produced a tender sushi, unlike the rather tough nigiri versions.

Sashimi can often be a crapshoot, with less considerate and creative chefs using strong-tasting fish like mackerel, as space-fillers.  At Sushi Laco, all four fish were tender, mild and flavorful and included tuna and salmon.  These were served atop a bed of shredded daikon and artistically arranged on the plate.  The sushi was preceded by a small, crisp and nicely chilled lettuce, topped with the ONLY truly fresh ginger dressing I've ever had.  Most places use commercially bottled, overseasoned, overly heavy ginger dressings.  Sushi Laco's dressing tasted like freshly grated ginger and gave a brightness to the meal.

Sushi Laco also offers genuine Japanese ramen and several Korean favorites, and my hope is that, in time, they will offer even more Korean dishes.

The service staff was attentive but never intrusive.  I can't wait to return.

To Sushi Laco, I say  !  (Thank you!)

  3. Came here based off of the hefty rating this place has on Yelp but didn't seem to feel the same way.

I didn't find their sushi to be anything special, in fact, I totally stopped eating the Philly Roll as it had a really funny taste to it. The other specialty rolls I ordered were alright but again, I didn't find it to be anything to brag about and after the bad Philly Roll, I was kind of scared to really finish the others.

The avocado salad wasn't good, the lettuce was bad and they topped it with a ton of crunch and fish eggs, yuck. Also, their ginger dressy was not good at all either.

I did admire the presentation of the sushi, coming out on the big wooden boat but that was about all I was impressed with.

  4. Great place for lunch! I'm horrible when it comes to estimating how much sushi I'll eat so I got the special C which was one special roll and one regular roll. We also got a chicken teriyaki box. They give you SOO much food. The chicken teriyaki box comes with enough juicy chicken and sticky rice with 4 pieces of California roll and a bunch of edamame. The sushi rolls also came with edamame and 2 gyozas. And 2 miso soups! We had enough left over for a small lunch the next day.

The rock and roll roll was delicious as was the smoked philly roll although you couldn't really taste the smokiness of the salmon in the smoked philly roll.

The waiters were super nice and quick to answer any questions we had. I'm glad this is by where I work, I will be coming back.

  5. Really good experience here Tuesday night for dinner. We arrived about an hour before closing so we were the only table in the house, but the service was great and the food was better than expected for strip mall sushi. Definitely get one of the "boxes" – I got one that came with soup and salad, a special sushi roll of your choice, sushi and sashimi, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and some edamame all for $21. They also gave us two complimentary pieces of this amazing hand torched salmon sushi. Stop in and you won't be disappointed.

*Protip – the only difference here between the low sodium and regular soy sauce here is that they seem to add water to the low sodium, which was a bit off putting, but nonetheless I had a good experience.

  6. Monday night at 6:30. Typically a slow night for restaurants but not here. It's not a big place, 7 tables and 5 at the sushi bar. People are coming and going.

Two sushi chefs focused on what they are doing. Plenty of staff and very nice and accommodating.  Willing to help with selections.

Originally came in for just sushi, but saw them serve a spicy seafood soup so ordered that and a deep fried eel roll that was on the specialty menu.

Seafood Soondubu: I like spicy so to me it was a 3.5 out of 5. Served boiling and very tasty.  Lots of tofu which is very healthy. Served with a bowl of rice which helped.

Dancing eel roll: went on a limb with the tempura type roll.  It was good but the distinctive flavor of the eel was lost in the mushiness of the avocado.

Special crab roll: as a surprise they offered one piece of a crab roll that was served warm.  It was unbelievable.  Not sure of the name but next time I will order at least one roll.

I am sure to add this to my staple of restaurants in the area when I visit .

It was a lot of food for one person. Very content at the moment.

  7. Might be my favorite sushi place! Great brown rice rolls and their seaweed salad is perfect. Prices are reasonable and if you eat there they sometimes come around and give you some freebie sushi pieces.

  8. The people here are very nice. Super nice

I came here after work one day. It was a late night. I ordered miso soup, California, and Philly.

The only bad thing was that they forgot the cream cheese in the Philly. I was looking forward to it haha as always. But it was still good. The miso soup was so delicious. I could have licked the bowl. I should have haha. The two chefs behind the sushi bar gave me a crab sashimi on the house. It was with spicy mayo and I think eel sauce. It was delicious. Their rice is cooked perfectly and the fish taste pretty fresh.

Would definitely order lunch to go here.
