Alright, it's good and tasty, but these prices are extremely high. Dinner for four with margaritas was $250 including tip. A bit much for Brooklyn. I'm curious to try their specials one night, but with these prices I will not be frequenting much.
Great food overall, small local Mexican restaurant. Great guac with non gmo tortillas! You have to get the hibiscus margarita. It's best to have a reservation for dinner. Some things are pricy so that's why I don't give it a 5 stars.
Great spot for dinner. Food and drinks were good. I recommend the guacamole and the frozen margaritas. The tacos were regular tacos, can't mess up on that. This place is not quiet and has tons of background noise. I would come here again.
Pretty good food, very good drinks, but prices that are too high for the nature of the food and portion sizes.
The time to go is for happy hour (which is limited to seating at the bar), at which time the prices are reasonable. During happy hour, all listed drinks and the happy hour menu items are $7. I recommend the Guac for sure, the rest of the items that I've tried are all decent, but that's it – decent.
The setting is nice. The owner and staff are pleasant.
Both times I've been here, I was impressed by their food quality and service. Our waiter both times was very friendly and helpful in providing recommendations (I think Alex?) The margaritas are delicious and strong, my favorite is the Rosalita.
The food is spot on. Some highlights are the guac, tuna ceviche, taquitos (filete) and the ribeye in corn mushroom sauce is incredible.
We recently sat in the garden area and it was a grear atmosphere to enjoy the outdoors. Not too loud, not too packed, just right. Service was attentive and there was music which is a plus!
We didn't have a reservation and didn't want to wait, so we sat outside. There was a kid running around, which was annoying.
This place is PRICEY. Look – I eat out in Brooklyn and Manhattan all the time and I'm used to paying high prices, but this was different. My boyfriend got fish tacos….one taco was $10 (appetizer style)…..the entree style plate of 3 tacos and a tiny arugula salad was $22. Seriously? I have to say, though…the tacos were decent.
I ordered the chicken enchiladas with mole – my favorite Mexican dish. However, their sauce was WAY too rich for me, so I only ate 2/3 enchiladas. Also, some of the chicken pieces I have to spit out because they felt weirdly hard….what the heck.
My hibiscus marg was good, but I just tasted the tequila, not the hibiscus flavoring. It was pretty, though.
Food came out fast and our waiter was pretty awesome.
I think my main problem is that the sauce was too rich, the taco entree was really small and the bill was $85 for two people. It just wasn't what I was expecting. I was naturally still hungry after….so we went over to American Cheez and got some pizzas 🙂
Came here after work with my boyfriend and the first thing I told him I had to try was the chips and guacamole. Which was definitely fresh and delicious. I don't remember the name but I had a chicken dish. It was full of flavor. The chicken wasn't dry, there was onions to add flavor, and the sauce was good. My boyfriend had a shrimp dish, it had beans, somehow the rice was green, which was pretty cool, and it was tasty.
I really love Fonda – it's a bit expensive but the dining experience is enjoyable and the service is always great. There are tons of more traditional Mexican dishes to choose from – guacamole, enchiladas and then a few more modern like salmon with plum salsa and seasonal salads. I ordered the ENSALADA DE AGUACATE Y ZANAHORIAS with grilled shrimp. The only weird thing was the shrimp came on the side – but not a biggie. The salad was beautiful and just the right size, since we ordered guacamole to start. My friend ordered the enchiladas suizas and said they were super cheesy and yummy. I'd definitely recommend Fonda for a fun night out or special occasion. For the guacamole, salad with shrimp, enchiladas and one margarita the bill was $85 – so just go in knowing that you're making an investment!
