Rosa Mexicano

“I don't usually drink tequila, but I got the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita which was really good.”

“Guacamole is no comparison to Dos Caminos' and I love that they serve it with warm soft corn tortillas.”

“All in all, Rosa always delivers a great meal experience and is a great place to take out-of-towners, but take them to the Union Square location (it has that impressive decor).”

  1. The food here tasted excellent. Love how they make the guacamole in front of you(so I was able to pick up some pointers on how to make bomb guacamole). I definitely recommend the shrimp tacos. I was nervous that they wouldn't be big enough at first but they were pretty huge and extremely delicious. The drinks were also very tasty. The strawberry-peppercorn marg is the perfect combo of sweet and spicy. Only complaint is that the margs weren't strong enough…I had 2 and felt a very slight buzz at the end of the night. But, I was so distracted by how good the food was that I didn't really care.

Overall, this is a Mexican go-to spot. The service is good, although our waiter kept pushing us to order the most expensive entrees on the menu and I noticed this right when we asked him what he recommends. Since my shrimp tacos were on the cheaper side, he kept telling me how small they were, and that wasn't the case at all(they were actually the biggest tacos I've ever seen). So, that put me off a little but other than that and the drinks being weak it was a great dinner. This isn't my TOP choice for Mexican in NYC, but I was glad that I tried it out and had a good experience.

  2. My new favorite happy hour spot!  Great deals.

I ordered the guacamole, which was great, and a chicken quesadilla.

I loved the pineapple mojito.   I tried my friend's margarita and it wasn't my favorite, but I want to try my own next time.

  3. Pomegranate Margararitas. You are welcome.

Strong drinks. Great food. Generous portion sizes. Amazing guacamole. Nice fancy dark mexican setup. Perfect date place!

  4. We had to start with the homemade guacamole.  I LOVE a good guacamole made in a molcajete.  It was delicious, but we ordered it spicy and I have to say that there was no decernable heat whatsoever.  I don't know if they forgot to put jalapenos in, or if they really have no idea what spicy mean.
For dinner I had the Chile Poblano Relleno.  It was filled with a mixture of brown rice, sautéed mushrooms, chayote squash and goat cheese and was served over 2 salsas and grilled asparagus.  It was very good, but I felt like the coating was a little thick and I peeled it back a bit to eat the filling.  Sis got the baja fish tacos.  She loves fish tacos and she was happy with these.  All in all it was a good spot, but I'm still searching for exceptional Mexican food.  I'd go back for guac and cocktails.

  5. Craving Mexican? This is not your place.
The food was such a disappointment. So much so that the good service and staff didn't make up for it.
We went for a late lunch. We liked the fact that they welcomed kids (added one star because of this). Roomy enough to navigate a stroller BUT this was only because the place was not busy. If it had been, forget about bringing it in.
Once we were seated we didn't waste any time. I decided on the spicy margarita and their "tableside" guac. They say it's prepared tableside…so I am thinking they wheel out the cart, make your guac and viola it's done. Not so. It was done in a corner area barley visible with no fanfare. It turned out to be less than average. Let down to say the least. The El Jimador Clasico (margarita) was presented in a glass made for shots…seriously? For $13 I expected something more. Another let down. Our meals were prepared in a short time. I had the Pollo Tacos and she had the Tres Enchiladas. The pollo tacos came out without the tacos…say what? They ended up bringing the tortilla's midway through the meal. Why call them tacos when in fact they are fajita's? Delayed tacos…another gripe. My wife enjoyed her tres enchiladas. Very frustrated we skipped dessert, paid the bill ($73 – 2 entrees, guac and 1 drink) and left…moments later I didn't feel so hot. Damn you Rosa Mexicano! I would have preferred a burrito from a street vendor over you…I should have stuck with my old reliable Dos Camino's. So much for branching out…bye bye forever RM…

  6. Dined here last night with 3 other friends and the food was fine but the prices are pretty high. We had the tableside guacamole (double portion, definitely needed for 4 people, for two avocados $30) which was delicious and plenty of margaritas. I was surprised that they don't offer pitchers of margaritas outside of happy hour… so for $14 – $15 a drink really adds up if you have a couple. They were tasty though as well. For dinner, I had a beef quesadilla and added peppers and onions (I feel like that is a quesadilla staple) which I guess the price was fine ($15), another friend had a chicken quesadilla, one had ceviche and another the brisket tacos. I wasn't pleased with my quesadilla which lacked fillings I felt but overall everyone else seemed pleased with their meal. Another issue I had is the bar setup is horrible and so crammed, no pitchers or margaritas and no Mexican draft beer (only bottles). All in all, I think there are probably hundreds of better Mexican places in the city that are more reasonably priced.

  7. Caught up with a few friends here! Good food, tasty drinks, and fun vibe! Can't go wrong there!

  8. There are so few places open late near the UES. I was craving late night dessert and found this place's dessert menu online. Glad I stopped in! They're open until 11:30pm, and the place has a really nice cozy ambience. I didn't get any of the food, so the review isn't for dinner.

What I had really wanted was the Tres Leches cake, but they were out. Really bummed, but there were other choices.

    1. Mango cup: It was winter and we were guaranteed that the mango was as good as during the summer. Unfortunately, it wasn't, but they had put two scoops of ice cream in it with some additional magic sauce, so it was delicious nonetheless. There were these crackers with powdered sugar on them that were really great too!

    2. Chocolate Banana cake: This was basically a really good banana bread with a scoop of ice cream on top. I thought it was a bit dry, but overall still a solid dessert.
