Love the new location. Nothing beats the speed, quality and taste of a falafel here. This is a no frill joint with great Middle Eastern food.
The 5 stars are for their pastries, the mabrumeh. OMG. Go for the mabrumeh!
I actually stopped in one day just to get my fatty-self a few of these for the road before we left NYC. We only got 4 and I wish I got a whole box of them. For $2 each, it's a steal. Take it home and pair it with coffee or tea and you have a nice scrumptious snack. It's a pastry with nuts, honey and a delicious dough.
The falafel was pretty good too and especially for the price. The hot sauce is.. HOT but very tasty! And the container pours out like a spout so be careful! There was only in the whole place so if its at someone's table, ask to use it because it's pretty delish. Don't forget to grab napkins. You're going to need it.
Place is super small with 2 tables and a standing table inside. So ,if you're with more than one person and see an open table, grab it because someone else will if you don't.
Mamoun's is a casual place where you can sit down or get to go. It does open late so good drunk food.
My friends LOVED this place but I was a bit disappointed when my Shawarma Plate with rice came out. I do love the thick juicy slices of the lamb meat, however the lamb was too gamey! I love lamb but this was not good. This overall lacked flavor, the tahini sauce didn't add much flavor to it either. For the platter, you get to choose between rice or salad. If you want both, there is an added cost.
We do LOVE the falafel!! Yum! Love the fresh herbs in it!
I am willing to give this place another try and maybe get the Shawarma Pita Sandwich.
Note: This place is slightly more expensive than the MacDougal location.
Okay New York, I get it, I now FINALLY understand what the hype is about. Mamoun's is bomb. I had a platter of shawarma, falafel, babaganouj, and hummus and man oh man was I fa-la-FULL. Awesome eats at this place.
The business itself is family-owned for three generations and you can feel the love. The employees are great and friendly, the food came quickly, it was beyond tasty, and now all I want is to bathe in their hummus. Wowza. I cannot wait for my next Middle Eastern fix.
I'm glad to see there's more than one Manhattan location for Mamoun's. They do have four other locations outside of NYC (3 in NJ and one in CT). This one is significantly larger and cleaner than the original on MacDougal street though obviously with much less character. The important thing to note is that they're open really late (2am Mon-Wed, 3am Thur, 5am Fri-Sat, and 1am Sun) and the falafel is still second to none. Unfortunately they have different prices for all their locations for some reason (rent?) so this location is a bit more expensive than the one on MacDougal but $2.50 for a side of 3 of their falafel balls with a side of their tahini sauce is still one of the best affordable snacks around by far. I never get anything else from them but obviously you can get all sorts of middle eastern (falafel, hummus, baba ganouj, tabbouleh, shawarma, chicken kabob, shish kebob, or kafta kebob) sandwiches or plates for between $3.75 to $12 depending on the choice and combination.
Yes, the raves about Mamoun's are legi. Their offerings are inexpensive, delicious, and flavorful. Seating is limited, and restrooms aren't available.
Absolutely diggin' this new location.
Aside from having way more space and new decor, the new Mamoun's is just so much more inviting than the old location. Not to bag on the previous location, but this is definitely a huge step up.
I've had mamoun's falafel sandwiches for years now and it's always been great. It might've actually been the first time I've had falafels! It's nice and crispy on the outside and the tahini is to die for. I've always stuck with the falafel sandwich and refused to get anything else.
But after years of just getting falafels, I finally decided to switch it up in celebration new store. I ordered the shawarma sandwich and I didn't feel an ounce of regret. Probably one of if not THE best shawarma I've ever had. Super flavorful and tender. Other shawarma sammies I've had lack that rich gamey, lamb flavor that I enjoy. Mamoun's shawarma does not lack that flavor, at all!
I have high hopes that this spot will be their's for a long time, unlike their predecessors.
This place has the best falafels in New York City. No other falafel can even come close. When you think of falafel, you think mamouns.
