Cozy little space with good food, good drinks, and good service. My bro-in-law performs in the neighborhood and frequents Bar Virage quite a bit, and took us here after one of his shows.
Lots of wines and beers on tap, but as I was unable to drink when we visited, the bartender was quick to suggest a yummy "mocktail" for me.
Fun little bar snacks (slightly spicy and crispy fried chickpeas, yummmm) and good food at decent prices. The kitchen is open late!
Yummy brunch without a crazy wait!
My group of 5 was seated immediately and given cranberry walnut bread and awesome blueberry muffins to nosh on. So far so good.
The brunch menu has two sections
1. $15 breakfast entrees that come with juice and coffee (a few items have an up charge)
2. Lunch stuff like burgers and salads
The breakfast menu had a lot of interesting looking items so choosing was tough! I liked how it had your typical options and some really unique ones as well. I ordered the lobster hash (+3$ upcharge) after a major internal debate and really liked it!! It was really well flavored, the lobster seemed to be of good quality. I really liked the spicy hollandaise and my one complaint would be that I wish there was more of it! Oh and that the OJ that comes with brunch basically comes in a shot glass.
My friends all liked their dishes as well. For those of you who don't like to eat breakfast food for brunch, my friend really liked her lamb sliders.
I would much rather eat here than at one of the more well known spots with a two hour line!
Stopped in for a drink and ordered the jalapeño margarita, v good and strong! M ordered a rum and coke & that was good & strong too. Good price for what you get. Nice little place, relaxed atmosphere and friendly bar staff. We would have stayed for longer if we didn't have plans elsewhere. I'd go back again to spend a little more time here but it was also a good place to pop in for a drink and move on.
Came to the east village for some drinks and stumbled upon this place after looking for a spot that had some tables outside to enjoy the nice weather. The place had a great vibe.
For drinks I ordered the ginger Manhattan it has bourbon, ginger, jerry Thomas bitters, cocchi vermouth.. I was not a big fan of this drink, it had a very odd taste.
For tapas we ordered the hummus, mozzarella croquettes, shrimp, smoked octopus.. Every single dish was delicious..the smoked octopus was out of this world.. Definitely will be coming back.
Came here on a date and although that was a bust the food was a definite win.
I love that they have wine on tap here. it's good too, and the price is reasonable.
We did a selection of small plates for dinner:
– spicy chickpeas were smoky and crunchy and great
-Mediterranean platter: everything had a lot of flavor. The hummus was creamy, babaganoush was garlicky, falafel not too dry and great dipping sauce, pita soft and warm
– Mediterranean salad had a nice tangy flavor and veggies were fresh
Not a bad place for a drink, nice bar and they had Duvel. Didn't have any food but seemed to be a good place for food and drink.
Hip hip horray it's back! My fiance and I came here a few times before the renovations for their brunch which was super good and included a brunch cocktail and coffee or juice with the meal – it was a great deal! They still have a similar brunch special that doesn't include the brunch cocktail but is still worth it.
Brunch cockatils are only $5 each, and the meals are HUGE and delicious. They still come with coffee and a fresh pressed juice, and homemade muffins and bread to start. We enjoyed ever piece of the meal from the muffins and bloodies to the actual main dish itself. We brought some back to the apartment because the plates were so big.
Lobster & eggs – wowza
Steak and eggs – steak is amazingly tender and seasoned unlike most brunch spots
Southwest bene – so delicious with ground meat. I got the red chili sauce on the side because I am sensitive to spicy and the plate was perfect. You might think ground beef, eh, but it was super good.
Classic eggs bene with salmon – no soggy biscuit here, just pure goodness!
I have to stop in for dinner one night, because it seems I am addicted to their brunch!
I enjoyed coming to Bar Virage! We unfortunately missed the Happy Hour (ends at 7), but that's ok because we had a fun time and the food was delicious. The two of us started with a carafe of red sangria, and then shared 3 tapas (the guacamole, the middle eastern combo platter, and the two-way truffle oil mozzarella). Delicious!
We fortunately were able to sit outside right on 2nd Ave and it was a beautiful summer night, too. Service was great. Our waiter even gave us Jagermeister as a "digestive" for free- never knew that was a thing, but he definitely got some points for that. Topped it all off with a scrumptious apple tart with hazlenut crumble and vanilla ice cream!
All in all, this is a great place to come for relatively affordable tapas, and a casual atmosphere in a vibrant area of the East Village.
