This little restaurant is great. I had the chicken teriyaki which came with miso soup and rice. My daughter had suishi which she enjoyed. The suishi rolls are bigger than most places. The prices are reasonable and the service was very good. I would definitely go back. The miso soup was probably the best I ever had.
Great sushi and cheap prices. Really can't go wrong at this place. I've tried many different sushi rolls and appetizers and everything is always fresh and delicious.
What does EDO stand for anyway? Excelent, delicious, and outstanding? Well it should be, because those are three words that describe EDO to a T!
I heard great things about the place so I decided to make an order. I went to the website which allows you to place an order online. Gotta love the hi-tech world! Not sure if it was the browser I was using, but I kept getting an error message after I added something to my order. I decided to just call the order in.
There are about ten spots in front of EDO on Merrick Rd. I know this is primarily a take-out restaurant, but I was surprised how miniature the inside was. There are only like four tables (one of which was being occupied by the owner's kids.) My order was ready in about 15 minutes and not only do they accept the usual credit cards, they except the Discover card!
There were two men making the rolls at a sushi counter. I love watching them create edible masterpieces! I went for the full package. Soup, salad, app AND two sushi rolls. For around $16 bucks, I got all the above.
When I got home, I unpacked the bag and was impressed that the salad dressing was in a cup rather than just mixed into the salad. I started with the miso soup, which was a pretty large cup. The salad came next and the ginger dressing tasted great! Different, but great. It had more of a tomatoe-y essence. Next was the appetizer which was called Kani Su. It was large chunks of crabstick, in a vinegar sesame dressing sprinkled with what I assume was roe. It was so freaking good!
I ordered the Salmon Skin and Eel Avocado rolls. I was getting full but I needed to taste them. The hit was the salmon skin roll. It had a smokey, BBQ flavor that I had not tasted in any other salmon skin roll I have ordered. It was my favorite. The whole meal tasted so fresh as if it was prepared at your kitchen table!
I give this place two thumbs up. I like the option that rather than white rice sushi rolls, you can request brown rice. That is a perk I haven't seen at any other sushi place.
I wanna order again! Is two times in one week too much?
It is very sad that so many Yelpers call this good quality fresh sushi. I can't believe all of the 5 star reviews. The prices here are dirt cheap, do you really think that this place could use good quality fish and stay in business? Some of the rolls may look pretty and the fish here is safe to eat initially, but that is all. They used chopped up mushy frozen tuna in the tuna avocado roll that I ordered. A better restaurant would prepare that roll with strips of fresh meat, not chopped up mush. Good quality regular lean tuna that has never been frozen, would appear deep red in color and smooth yet firm in texture. What Edo served me was mushy/pasty. Looking further into tuna, I'll bet that you didn't know that one way to preserve the color of the meat is by treating it with Carbon Monoxide. The FDA has said that it is safe for human consumption, but that practice is banned in many places outside of the USA. By preserving the color, you wouldn't know if the meat was actually spoiled. Many sushi restaurants use this tuna all of the time because it is cheaper than using fresh tuna. It's one thing if the frozen stuff is being used for something like Spicy Tuna, where the quality of the fish is masked by sauce and spices, but don't serve it to me as sashimi! I can't say that EDO uses this for sure, but due to the price point there's a good chance. If a sushi restaurant serves a fish like Salmon it must be frozen to kill any potential parasites, but there is much more to it than that. The conditions in which Salmon farms in the USA raise their fish are horrible and in turn create potential health risks for those of us who consume them. A quality sushi restaurant will go out of their way to spend more money and buy their salmon from better places, like Scotland. I can pretty much assure you that the cheap places use USA farm raised. Many sushi restaurants like Edo are selling the cheap stuff at cheap prices and people are loving it. The last thing that I'm looking for when it comes to sushi is a bargain! All I hope to do by writing this review is open some eyes. You don't have to take my word on this, please look this information up online. The bottom line is, if you want "good quality sushi" you have to pay for it $$. I'm not saying that the only option is Yasuda in Manhattan, but I am saying that you will not get good quality sushi at an all you can eat place or for $3 per roll. However, if you like the cheap stuff and all you want to pay for a sushi roll is $3, then by all means enjoy! BUT, please don't write "expert" reviews claiming great quality sushi, when in fact you have no clue on the subject.
My testimony: Once I was a sushi virgin; intimidated of that small cute goodness. Now I have been blessed by sushi. Anyways , the quality of the sushi and rolls are pretty good. The price of the sushi is amazing, I don't feel like I'm giving a arm and a leg. As for the place itself… Chinese Food Take Out. So don't expect Midtown, or Tao in the city.
Had delivery from here last night. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was great. Had the chicken teriyaki, volcano app, and spring rolls. Food arrived quick and was excellent. Best delivery sushi I've had. Volcano was really good.
This place is another surprisingly great find in Lynbrook for japanese food! First off the staff was really understanding and accommodating when I decided I wanted to change my pick up order to a sit down because I was in a situation where I had to be in a rush. Though I had some trouble finding the location once I was there I loved the small and cozy feel the place had. Though it wasn't a big space it was a great spot to hit up. I loved the hand rolls I got. First off the size was super generous it was quite filling and delicious!! I got the Philly hand roll and the eel avocado. Both were full of flavor and quite filling. I also got the seafood soup and it has a tasty seafood broth and there was a good amount of veggies inside which is nice! All in all I really enjoyed this place and hope to be a regular here.
I agree with Meri….this place is excellent.
After that bitch Sandy ripped my town to shreds, I spent my days clearing debris from my neighbors, friends, and community members homes. So the days were long and all all shops in lb were shut down. Jonesing for some sushi I checked my handy dandy yelp app and found sushi in the area my friends reviewed….
Friend,y service (I just did take out, but they were nice) and I was impressed with just how many rolls they had and how inexpensive they were. I figured for sure I'd be getting something like the junk rolls from Waldbaum's.
I was wrong…yay! Fresh sushi, tight rolls, deliciously prepared eel….yummy. Def worth the trip outta my hood to head over here.
